Post new topic

QUESTION: I am thinking about starting a so-called business in Ethiopia.... Can anyone give me a Check List of things that would be required in order to complete such a task.... Is a 'Yellow Card' required; and is there some king of "Small Business Administration" there that helps with this king of thing, like here in the US....  THANK YOU for any INFO....

Hello,

1. you should carefully read the latest Investment proclamation (federal) you can find on the Internet or ask the next ethiopian embassy of your Location.
2. if you are a non ethiopian you will find some limitation on Business fields, this is mainly to protect local Investors. to give you a excample, a simple bar will not be recognised as a foreign Investment, also taxi or any other Transport Business.
3. alcohol, cigarets, wappons etc are also restricted, they need a government partnership.
4. non ethiopian Need to bring a Minimum capital, which is depending on the Business field, for excample as a consultance it is requiered that you invest min 50.000 USD or in agriculture 200.000 USD. If you have a local Partner this min will be decreased! But you have  no Obligation to have a local Partner, you can be a signle Investor on your self.
5. you have to give clear Information that you have the required capital, intern. bank Statement and that you are a legal personalety, meaning if you are a PLC you Need to prove
6. please also see the regional Investment proclamation, you will find quite a difference, for excample Oromia has much more Regulation

Just some Generals, Feel free to ask any Detail questions.
