I will be arrving in a few weeks for three months, mixture of business, vacation, etc. Looking to correspond and meet with english speaking expats (especially those with an interest in rugby!). Popular expat bars, restaurants, etc. Very keen to learn about living in Vietnam, business opportunities, everything.

Rugby? What's Rugby??? Oh, that's the game that makes our American football look like a sissy's sport. Rugby is even tough to watch as a spectator sport. You only need to visit the open air streets in the backpack area to meet many like-minded expats. Mostly in the evenings and more so on Friday and Saturday. The main street in the backpack area is Tran Hung Dao. Any taxi can take you there. Friendly bunch of people down there and many are British or Aussie. Not many Americans around town. At least I don't meet them. Maybe their inside watching that sissy American game football. HAHA

Another place that is frequented by English and Aussie expats is a billiard hall at 106 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia, just off the main downtown street of Le Loi, almost in the center of town. It's name is The Ky Bida. I don't see many Americans visit the place, mostly Aussie and British, so I mention them. Being semi-retired I'm in there about 20 to 25 hours a week. Young ladies rack the balls and act as waitresses. The place has 3-ball, snooker and 6-pocket tables, if that's an interest to you. One or two of the girls can give good competition if pool is your game.

Thank you very much. I have played a bitof snooker and pool in my time so that might be interesting. I will either be arriving at monthend or mid-July, so I look forward to a beer one day.

Malcolm

And everything you say about american football and rugby is correct, nice to talk to someone who understands their sport.

Sure, we can maybe connect at the pool hall. Also, another great place to meet for beer is the Czech style micro-brewery in District 1 named Hao Vien. One of the few place that don't automatically place a huge cube of ice in your beer glass. They serve it cold in chilled glasses. I drink the dark beer, which I think is quite good. But I'm not a good judge of beer.
