Ecuador Orders US Military Group to Leave

QUITO, Ecuador April 25, 2014 (AP)
By GONZALO SOLANO Associated Press

Ecuador has ordered the U.S. Embassy's military group, about 20 Defense Department employees, to leave the country by month's end, in a further indication of strained relations.

The group was ordered to halt operations in Ecuador in a letter dated April 7, the U.S. Embassy confirmed Friday.

Late Friday afternoon, Ecuador's embassy in Washington issued a statement saying the "scaling back" of the U.S. military presence reflected the country's "improved political stability" and "increased internal security and defense capacities."

The shuttering of the U.S. Embassy's "Security Cooperation Office" was first reported by The Associated Press overnight after it was alerted by a senior Ecuadorean official.

Nice PR but the truth remains to be told…….somehow if I recall correctly this started after some helo mishap close to the Columbian border which had US mil along with Ec mil…….
Would guess there is much more to this……and is part of the refusal of Ec to renew the USAF/CIA lease in Manta………

There's always something more.

Politics is always a messy thing that no one knows the full story.

A little bit off the subject: but does anyone know what is going on the last couple of days: we are in the heart of Quito... military planes and helicopters are circling the sky last two to three days.. what is going on?
