how many Km is from ho chi minh to vung tau?
what better to use, bus or taxi?

125 km. Taxi. 60 dollars. Bus 6 dollars. Van 5 dollars. From Ben Thanh market in district 1.There is a direct bus from the airport. It is in the parking lot in front of the domesticterminal. 6 dollars.

Take the hydrofoil from saigon to vung tau. Fastest and most fun. 15 bucks

From HCM to Vung Tau is about 125 Km.
For saving, you can use passenger car of Phuong Trang travelling with about VND 120 000.
Phuong Trang travelling locate at 272 Đề Thám street, district 1. (be careful, they have 2 stations, 1 for Vung Tau trip, the other for Phan Thiet trip)
An advice, that is not use taxi, the price will be higher than passenger car so much, about VND 1.5 mio.
