Getting your Bahrain DL

Post new topic

Stakan

I know there are multiple threads on this, but I would like to clarify.

I have a US drivers license. I finally want to go to the traffic directorate in Isa Town to get my Bahrain license.
What exactly do I need to take? I believe it is CPR, valid US license, and 2 photos (maybe my passport too just to be safe).

Also, can I just show up or is an appointment needed?

Thanks.

You need:

2 copies of CPR (both sides)
2 copies of Driving licence (both sides)
2 copies of passport photo page
2 copies or residency permit stamp
2 photo's (you can smile)
I would also take all originals too just in case. They now have a copy machine that takes 100fill coins
Eye test required which is a man ticking a box cos you can see him

No appointment needed. Website says 9 - 1 then 3 - 7  opening hours but people have contridicted this. Go 9am and it takes about 45mins and approx BD30

Huge topic on this by Jaz, great guy and very thorough

Jo
I did this for my boss the other day and did 5 copies of everything

Stakan

Thanks Jo.

I planned to go first thing tomorrow, but I didn't think to make copies of everything. And I don't have so many coins to make copies. Ugh!
Either I get up very early and go to the office before taking my child to school or I try another day.

Anyway, thanks a lot for the info.

Call at Salmabad fuel station and buy chewing gum or something to get change. Does your home printer not do copies? My boss has been her 18months and has only just changed his over so no rush..

Stakan

I don't have a printer at home at all.
Not a bad idea to try the filling station, but I think I'll just skip tomorrow and make copies at work.
Thanks again.

A word of caution - those photocopiers at the Traffic Directorate sometimes gobble up the coins and do not throw out the photocopies. Has happened to me a few times. So I now take all the copies I need with me whenever I go there for any work. Its not losing the 100 fils that is the problem. Its the time that gets wasted trying to find a copier that works and more coins if you run out.

The issue Farhaz explained, the same has happened with me as well, so take all the copies with you prior to visiting the place.

Just to update -
I went this morning to the Traffic Directorate. I arrive at 08:45 and they were already open. Not sure what time they open, but I think it is quite a bit earlier than 09:00 (I didn't see the hours posted anywhere). Anyway, I took the originals and two copies of everything with me. The whole process was very easy. It took about 30 minutes from arriving to getting my new license handed over to me.

By the way - they actually only needed one copy of everything. But I'm sure if anyone goes armed with just one copy they will need two so it is best to take two!

Farhaz

Congratulations Stakan.

Now you are officially licensed to drive like the rest of us ... (you can interpret that anyway you like :D )

And thanks for the update. Good to hear that it all went well and the process was indeed straightforward.

Happy and safe driving!
