Social Insurance Family Member

Post new topic

Dear Expat Members,

I would like to have some information regarding social insurance for family member. My wife right now is covered under travel insurance and soon that will be finished. I would like to know if there is any other private insurance company with good hospital providing facilities over here in Budapest. As per what I have heard, if you are dependent and on family visa you need to pay monthly half of the minimum salary for government provided social insurance (40 - 45K).

Any advice or guide welcomed.

Thanks in advance

Not clear. You are here an a family renunciation visa? Your wife is Hungarian (but on travel insurance?)?

Recent law changes requires everyone to have some institutionalized Insurance plan/payment. Normally if you are a foreign resident not employed by a company (or student) offering you some employment exception, you can pay into the state insurance system. The amount you  pay is dependent on your income (which is assumed the first year without local employment to be the minimum wage to "buy into" the health care system), If you have no actual income (you are a dependent of someone else who is a Hungarian national), then the second year you can request a decrease in payments.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. Let me clear the situation. Myself I am permanent resident and working here . My social insurance is taken care by company. My wife has arrived on family visa and I have question regarding her having social insurance. What is the monthly amount I need to pay and where i can arrange the same.
