On your next visit to the Labour office, you may collect the following information, if possible ^^

If one enrolls in a VN university (for courses like MBA or PhD) will he/she be legally eligible to work part-time during his/her stay in VN as a student?

I think, I read somewhere, those on student visa can do part-time jobs. It's legally acceptable.

Would highly appreciate if you can check this information with the relevant authorities. Thanks in advance, Van Khanh.

I doubt that a foreign student can wok in Vietnam by student visa. I don't see "student" on the list of foreign can work in Vietnam on prevailing labor regulation. Only if they are qualified for obtaining a work permit as a worker. You said "for courses like MBA and PhD". so there is a change that they already have a Bachelor right? So there is a change that they can obtain a work permit as worker

Anyway I will check with the authority on "student" case, and make a little research online also.

Anyone know a foreign student who working in Vietnam? Are they working as student? Please share

Hi there

I'm sorry for my absent mind, THERE IS "student" on the list of cases of foreigners can work in Vietnam without work permit, right in the Labour Code 2012, article 172.

Notice that the employer have to give a notice 07 days in advance to the provincial labour authority, and apply for a Confirmation that the foreigner is in the category not required to have work permit.

shame on me  :sick

There is no uniformity to laws in Vietnam.

This show bad side and good side in the same time. Sometimes the laws are very open but the authority built fences, require nonsense documents which is not regulated on the laws. Sometimes the laws is stupid and the authority have to find another way, apply it in a flexible way to help the business.

That's why you find inconsistency everywhere.

Hii,
It's good to get the confirmation from you.   :one
Actually, in most countries non-sponsored foreign students on long-term Student Visa are allowed to do part-time works on restricted conditions ... including hours per week, types of work etc. It’s only natural that Vietnam is no exception to that.

Please don’t say sorry. We keep asking so many questions of you. You still have patience to follow up all our queries sincerely. It’s indeed very kind of you. :) Take it easy. Thanks always....

Ya thank you for your kind word

I feel shame because as a person working in law field, it's unacceptable to miss a thing in Law, which is considered as the most basic principle and most important things.

I can be forgave if i don't know something in the guiding documents, but in Law...  :sick

I understand, perhaps agree with you too.
But, in a country where laws and regulations keep changing 2/3 times a year, it's indeed a herculean task to keep track of all small changes all the time. You are definitely doing a great job.

Don't put yourself under stress.
Time for a relaxed cà phê sữa đá, perhaps, .... in a garden cafe  :)

My foreign student came here 3 weeks ago, she will stay here 3 months. What do you want to know?
You can send her a message: https://www.expat.com/forum/profile.php … mp;lang=en
If she doesn't reply, maybe she doesn't come here often. Send me instead, I will ask her.

Hi ngattt,

I think your Finnish student might not have the privilege to work part-time (without a WP) while in Vietnam. She is here as an 'exchange student' and definitely with a sponsorship from her school back in Finland.
Thanks for your lead, anyway. ^^

Ah, she is not only exchange student, but also she works (internship) for an IT company. But I don't know about visa :D, never talk to her about this :D.

That's really an interesting piece of info. Internship is OK, I think, while on a student visa. Good for her  :top:

Hi Senwl!
As I know about WP, with the English teacher, you just need to adapt one of two papers:
1- University diploma
2- 5 years experience certificate with the same position abroad
Not all.
However, another condition you have to care is "Sponsor". To obtain WP and TRC, you have to sponsored by your company in Vietnam.
