Sad. Always make sure if door on balcony is locked...as many are, that you are able to unlock it in a hurry!!!

We had a house fire where i live, about 7 killometers outside of Nha Trang. By the time the fire brigade arrived there was nothing left of the house. It took them 45 minutes to get here. I dont know why it took them so long. Fortunatly no one was injured.

About half of the Pham Ngu Lao Ward, in HCM - the backpacker slum - has been declared unfit for human occupation. It's the end nearest Cong Quynh.

Part of the problem is that most fire engines, especially the newest, can't get down narrow streets and the few narrow fire units are insufficient for the needs.

Additionally, many of the 'fire hydrants' are dry, as in no water..

VNese electrical 'standards' are pitiful, too. I know one hotel, owned by the city, has ONE circuit breaker for the WHOLE building. Putting a 40 Amp breaker on a circuit feeding a 100 watt lamp isn't too smart!

Whenever you check in to a hotel you should walk the fire escape route. One 3* hotel in Hue has nice bright fire exit doors, unfortunately the external fire escape was removed when a new building was constructed next door.

HCM fire engines with ladders cannot reach above the 6th floor.

This is soo disturbing. Just shows why America requires a smoke detector to every room, ecspecially in a Hotel.
This is such a sad scene.

I do not know much about vietnamese gov't or know anything along those lines. But could the victims family sue this hotel or no? not to say that any money would replace this girls life.
Extremely sad, the firefighters could of broke down her door first but this did not seem to be their priority.
