I've seen 2 young lads riding on these in Bugibba. They were very noisy and extremely fast. I was thinking they had made them themselves, but now see a lot of advert, so they must be manufactured on a (small) industrial scale.

They have 80cc engines, so could easily get up to 50km/h or more depending on gearing fitted. I know normal bike's frame, wheels, bearings, tyres or brakes aren't made to go that fast. I also see no safety or protective gear such as helmets are worn!!

I thought to ask and find out as a matter of interest:

What is the position of Malta on these?
Are they road legal?

Can anyone shed some light please?

I have to say I have seen young, very young kids riding them around Nadur , Gozo. They are extremely noisy as they have no silencer system. The main concern is of course the safety of the riders but they they pay no attention to the possible consequences of riding these machines particularly without any safety/crash helmets.
