Hi,
We are in the process of relocating from the UK to Riyadh with my husbands job.
We will be going in to a compound and my daughter I'm hoping to get in to the British International school, she is yr9.
Is it very easy to make new friends, as I like to socialise and have coffee etc.....and the thought of being on my own all day is not a good one😃
Any tips and advice on the final few weeks in the UK before arriving there.
Thanks,
Sarah

Have you ever done camping in the desert during the summer months at Riyadh !!
Welcome Mrs. Sarah and wish you a pleasant stay at Riyadh.
Don't worry too much, you will be able to enjoy and have your daughter at the school.
Compound life is more like back at your home, many westerners and from time to time there are events and social gatherings.. you can have coffee with your neighbors, go shopping with ladies (which most of them same as you, came with their husbands)
Adding to Yahya's saying above , you can go out for site seeing and if the weather is nice, camping as well, picnicking and mmm.. nice BBQ ! Also, going to the amusement parks with your beloved daughter and her friends and their mums!
Feel free if you felt stuck at something, my gfs would help you out and join you in female topics.
Thank you so much for replying.....I would like to be joined in female topics if poss as I'd like to try and get to meet a few people on here before we arrive, it always makes things easier.
I am sooooo excited!
That sounds like great fun.
How old is your daughter and where is she at school?

Hi Sarah,
I have a couple of questions. Sorry if this off topic. I am anxiously waiting for my invitation visa letter to arrive from SA before applying for the Visa and I thought you might help answering my questions.
- How long did it take your husband to receive his visa invitation letter from Saudi?
- How long did it take to receive the Visa and flight tickets from Saudi consulate in London?
Many thanks in advance, and hope you enjoy your stay in Riyadh.
Thanks so much it does sound like we will be happy when we get there!
As long as we can make some friends as I like to socialise 😎
Are you in Riyadh?
Never been to Saudi so not camped in the desert but sounds like an adventure!
We are hoping to be ther by Jan just waiting for hubby's company to sort out our visas and accommodation, flights etc.
Sarah
Ahh I see, so you still have not sorted out the visa invitation letter and the actual visa ?
I thought you already had the paperwork sorted and only waiting to fly.
Thanks
Hi there
It has taken 10 months since he had the first interview !!! Very very slow but finally got contract last week so we're hoping that things will speed up a little now.
The agent he got the job through in the UK will arrange flights visas etc and our compound over there !
That's all being done at the moment in the hope that we fly over in January!
Job offer had taken ages to be sorted but its finally done now👍
So your husband received the offer and visa invitation letter at the same time?
For me, I received an official offer within 2 weeks from the interview. Since then, I have been waiting for the visa letter to arrive ... 4 months so far and nothing.
No he got offer 6 months ago over phone and told it was waiting signature and then he heard nothing week after week!! So frustrating! Then last week got it in writing!
BISR is a great choice for your daughter's education and social life
Okey, so he got his offer letter after 6 months.
I hate to bear this bad news, but it also takes a long time to receive the visa invitation letter which is then used to issue the visa from the Saudi embassy in the UK.
Oh that's good to hear thank you so much
Does it take that long my husband has been told it is done very quick
Hi
ur husband shall ask his company
1: did they process visa online. if yes he can ask them the code to follow up the process in internet.
2: did his company pay 2000 sr visa cost
if 2 is yes i thing he will get the visa soon
some company pay fees early and process visa later
3: if u like send me company name and contact in private message and i will ask for u

You should be hammering your head for going to the desert in the summer months when the temperature is above 50 Degrees C !! But anyways that's your wish

Thanks for your invitation, but I don't need something to measure when I know what's the temperature in the peak summers. You can go yourself and measure the temperature and educate the EB community about it. Till the time being stop day dreaming and stop your ludicrous comments !!
Hi everyone ,
I'm new here ... But im very keen to speak to other people from the uk who have moved to ksa or are in the transitional process like myself . My husband and I have had job offers done over 2months ago and we are waiting for them to process the visa , which is taking for ever . Does anyone know how much longer should it take before we move out there ? All in all its been since July , so we don't know how long does it usually take , but reading some other posts it seems like it can take a while . Very frustrating !
Hello there,
The wait is very frustrating. I got a job offer in writing toward end of June 2014. Only this week I have received visa approval from Saudi Arabia. So overall it took about 5 months.
I am starting my visa application process next week in London. So more frustration before I finally move to Saudi, hopefully before 15 Dec.
Best of luck
U will work in private sector or gov.
!

Thank you for your input . It's nice to know what other people's experiences are . I guess then we are not alone with the wait . Hope things speed up a little more since we are waiting for the initial visa from saudi . Fingers cross ! Thanks again
Hi
My husband has been offered a job which he got interviewed for in February! He finally had the offer by email 2 weeks ago and had to agree to it.... And now we await the visa process !!! It's been so frustrating as we are in rented accommodation most of our belongings in boxes, not sure whether to sell stuff, put in storage !!! We keep getting told this week, then another week goes by !!!! We hoped to be there by now! We also have schooling to arrange which again we can't do until we know when we're going! We are going to Saudi x
Where in Saudi are you going to?
My hubby got his final contract this morning so now just to arrange visa medical etc and book flights! So much to do and pack up a house!!!
Oh congrats , let me know how long the visa process takes once ur done ! We're going to Riyadh .... What about your self ? When do u guys think ul be out there ?
Hi,
I've also been offered a job by King Abdul Aziz uni Jeddah and we're planning to move. I've got an email from the Saudi embassy to get my qualifications attested. I don't know how long it will take once we send them these documents? They've said it takes 3 weeks but I'm not sure. It's do hard to get connected on the phone numbers they've provided.
Is there anyone going to Jeddah from UK?
I've got 2 school going children.
Hi
He's been told visa can be done quick now he has offer officially!!!
We will be moving in Jan/feb I'd think as hubby will hand notice in as soon as he's got visa and had medical!
So excited but nervous too as its a whole new start!
Will you be going in to a compound?
Has all this been arranged for you?
Oh excellent ! Apparantly everything is arranged , we will be staying in a compound . It's just so frustrating with all this wait , it seems that the general mental attitude is just slow out there , so evrything takes extra long ! Sometimes were excited when we hear from them and then when we wait for a while again out excitement does out , lol, it's like a yoyo . Where will you be staying in compound ? Which city ?
Hi ,
It doesn't take that long to get your qualification attested . As far as I'm aware you can get it done at the saudi cultural bureau while your standing on the same day , but in saying that , this information is valid for saudi students . So it could be a different case for non saudi students , maybe it's a different procedure , but certainly doesn't take 3weeks .
We are going to Riyadh and will stay in a compound but we need to ask company whether they have a place for us or if we have to look for somewhere? Very frustrating as they are so slow!
Where r u moving from? And to?
I understand your frustration . we are moving from London to riyadh hopefully !!
We're moving from Southampton to Jeddah "hopefully"
My uni has said they don't have compounds available at the moment so we'll have to arrange a private accommodation. I don't find any good houses to rent online. I think it's not like UK there that you can find everything online. Even the schools don't pick the phone. I've been trying 4 different international schools. Quite frustrating
We will have to keep in touch xxx
