racism in pattaya

Post new topic

bouqetta

I m really sorry to tell this story. Last wekend me ( turkish)and my friend ( belgium)went to pratamnak to smoke sisha . Unfortunatelly the waiters stopped us infront of the door and told us that we can not even enter. When i ask the reason they said that they serve just for russians. I asked them whats the problem with being turkish and they said the boss doesnt want to serve to non russians. I am an expat and working in this country legally. How come a restaurant or shop refuse to serve to me ? I m a lady also ... how can a cause trouble ? Will i jump on russian guys? Come onn :))) how come they think that we are not good enough to enter?  Is it legal to refuse service because of nationality...this is the racist thing i ve ever seen. What a shame for thailand. I took the photo of this place and planning to complain about them. does anybody have an idea where should i apply for complain?

talk2dam

It looks more like sectarianism than racism. I hope nobody told you : Forbiden to Turkish.

Anyway, you are right, it is not acceptable to refuse any nationality in a restaurant or Bar. You should complain for that.
PS: a 100% Russian people bar, I think you did not miss so much ;)

I said clearly  i am turkish can i get in he said no. I showed my friend and said he is from belgium can he ? They said no... i asked over an over to be able to report them.. ....the funny part is that the waiters were from pakistan or india hahaha. Its so ironic.

anandindia

"The funny part is that the waiters were from Pakistan or india hahaha.it's so ironic...".. What do you mean by that bouqetta

Racism is every were.

May be u too should think too.Am I not a racist?

What happened to you was really unacceptable!
Becoz I know how would make you feel
I have the same experience in walking street when I last visited pattaya

A place like pattaya were lots and lots of Asia,African western come. Some one like tourist police should take this seriously

I really hope A change comes

that's exactly why they don't want non russians to come in...its their business and they can refuse entry to anyone they don't want to serve.

you're obviously naive.

other establishments around bangkok will ONLY serve japanese clientele cause they choose to serve that market only.  so its not unusual or "racist" as you think.

other venues will categorically exclude and deny entry to indians, arabs and black.  why ? cause the market they service ( whites ) don't feel comfortable around other ethnicity.  same applies for the japanese; they're shy and want privacy.  if you bring a couple of indians or whites next to their table they feel uncomfortable - and they pay triple the average prices - so serving one table of japanese is better than serving 3 tables.

do your homework and get that chip off your shoulder before you get seriously hurt.

Dear anandindia , what i mean is ' the people who refused to serve me( cause i m not russian)   are also non-russian. Isnt it ironic?

its not ironic..its their job and they've been instructed that way.

the point of your post is just to bad mouth russians in pattaya.

and i've already told you above that venues in thailand service only a specific type of clientele.  try going to Japanese club, karaoke etc in BKK and they'll refuse you entry cause you're not Japanese.

then come back here to rant and bad mouth all Japanese people and how racist they are.

bouqetta

Its really sad to see that there are still many people who finds it normal... unfortunatelly even thais are not  allowed to enter some clubs in thailand  which is really hard to understand for me. Its their country !!!  I would like to remind you that refusing to serve due to the ethnicity is against human rights. You might say that we are in south asia and its absolutely normal here. It wont change the result. Wrong is wrong. Plus, i would give the same reaction if i see that a coffee shop or restaurant refuse to serve to russian tourists. This is called common sense & humanity....  :)

Gravitas

Your story is exactly why its important to travel to broaden one's horizons and see that what you experience as Western norms just dont apply elsewhere. The definitions are very different and the "internationally accepted" rules or even laws are pretty irrelevant. Thats what makes life colourful and different around the world.

bouqetta

Believe me ,  racism still exist in western world also. Even in my hometown  turkey ( which is not that westener :)   ) the difference is that you can not defence the racism as it is a normal thing :)

Gravitas

The difference is probably that in the east its not viewed in the same way. Most of the societies are authoritarian here, on the surface at least, so people just play by whatever rules are prevailing. Its not racism (unintentional aparthied maybe!) its just commercialism, as was mentioned before. As there are usually plenty of other options no worries eh?

gulfport

maybe you should try another holiday destination.

bouqetta

Sigh.... i live here

Happynthailand

you should take off your rose colored glass's, Thailand ain't so rosey
and you being in pattaya ,the russian's own pattaya
and they have the big bucks

gulfport

from my experience; russians are among the nicest and most generous people in pattaya and around the world.

so i see no point in labeling them for being selective on which clientele to serve in their venues since it's a common practice around thailand.

then again; the purpose of the post is just to vent frustration and bad mouth a specific nationality.

the only funny thing about the post is that its written by a person coming from turkey where kurds are massacred since decades for being who they are; that's an example of racism.

bouqetta

Gulf you are really funny... please read my posts. And stop trolling.
