Remember the proposed Le Van Tam Park underground parking lot that was supposed to be up and working between DIEN BIEN PHU and VO THI SAU on HA BAI TRUNG?

The $100-million project under Le Van Tam Park, 'started' in 2010 but the inevitable red tape stalled construction.

Le Tuan, general director of the Investment Development of Underground Space Corporation, said construction can only start 2015 February at the earliest.

Tuan said they've been asked to basically start over, in terms of the paperwork process. The corporation must complete a new technical design, then submit it to the Construction Ministry and finally present it to the Ho Chi Minh City Construction Department for a permit.

Given that the highest land in Metro Ho Chi Minh City is only 19 metres above sea level, a major challenge facing any developers is the matter of flooding.

Other projects of the Investment Development of Underground Space Corporation (pause for breath) include September 23rd Park, on Ton Duc Thang Street, and at Trong Dong Theatre on Nguyen Du Street.

A easy solution would be to just build a a multi level one, but it's VN and things have to be done the hard way. I'm sure there is a government office nearby that is not being used and could be knocked down to make way for the car park.

It is multi-level - only down instead of up!

I always wonder where they get the money from.

Good point, Jaitch,

Not only that super big project, you will never know where they get money from in all government projects. Also the leaders get money to live luxury lives.

Even people do not care about government projects anymore...

It costs a lot to build anything in the ground. The government could of built 6 new bridges across the Saigon river instead of building that stupid tunnel in D1.

Don't look a gift-horse in the mouth!

It was partly a gift from Japan. Guilt money.

Besides, it allows the minority of vehicles - 4-wheel vehicles - to lord it over the rest of us as they can go under water all day.

Has anyone heard a valid reason for the closure, apart from motorcycle racing and exhaust tuning?

Jaitch

I went through the tunnel this morning, when did they close it.
