What work opportunities can an English girl have in Thailand?

Post new topic

I have already introduced myself but thought I would just say helpful this blog is. I have learnt so much on here.

I am currently looking in to taking a TEFL course in Thailand so I can teach English, however I am very keen to learn about any other opportunities for an English girl in Thailand.  My background is varied and I have solid corporate reception, admin and secretarial experience. I am also a croupier and I am currently working for a fun casino in my free time.

Any help would be very appreciated :).

sorry to say that you cant do work that Thais can do and this includes office work - its pretty wide description - but if you get a work permit it would probably say that you manage things.
Teaching is not a well paid position unless its in a decent international school or top uni.
Gambling is illegal in Thailand.

Hope this helps.

blackjack is correct in a way, except I would add that there are lots of opportunities other than teaching for foreigners in Thailand, as long as you are a professional ie have professional qualifications, like an architect, a marketing professional, a web developer, etc. You also can look to start a business (what I did) but it's not a short term thing!

My advice is to start teaching then as you learn more about the country, look for other opportunities. But yes, most jobs are protected unless you have skills Thais dont have!

A good TEFL program to go on with a guaranteed job is TEFL Heaven. You should check it out through Google, they give you the training to become an English teacher and a guaranteed job.

Other than that, I wish you all the best!
