Hello,
I am sorry if this topic has been covered before, as I couldn't quite understand how to sift info within the forum, but I will be grateful if someone could help me out.
My husband has been asked to quote a figure for the post of General manager in hospitality and tourism. Essentially,he will need to set up the office and hire people and get the business going as the company is just establishing itself.
My queries are:
1. What's the best salary that he can expect?
2. What expat benefits are standard feature of an expat package? Is the package dependent on nationality/race?
3. Would it be better to move there at single-status?
4. What is the standard of education in Libya?
5. Would it be possible to have normal western facilities like dishwashers, washing machines, dryers at home?
6.What does the term 'furnished house' mean and include?
7. How many paid trips back home can/should be expected by us in a year?
My sincere thanks for your taking the time to reply.
Regards
Nia

Nia I will answer what I can, I am in IT so the salary question is beyond me I am afraid.
2)Free housing (or an allowance towards housing). Free medical and dental cover. At least 1 more likely 2 or 3 paid flights back home per year.
3)No in my opinion, without my wife here I would be lost.
4) pretty good from what I hear, Gems and the British and American schools get good write ups.
5) Yes no problem.
6) Mostly means washing machine, cooker, beds, bedding, TV with decoder etc, cutlery and crockery, sofa and chairs, all you need really.
7) see point number 2.
Conditions and salary do vary by nationality as well as job type

1. What's the best salary that he can expect?
Depending on industry / Employer (Hospitality will not be a highly paid as Oil/ Gas) again, would probably depend on his CV and employer's nationality.
2. What expat benefits are standard feature of an expat
package? Is the package dependent on nationality/race?
Housing or Housing allowance , Car or Transport allowance, Mobile phone, Health & Life coverage and one paid flight home a year for employee and family.
there are others...but not as common as above.
Nationality yes, race no.
3. Would it be better to move there at single-status?
Not much difference
4. What is the standard of education in Libya?
There is British , American and International Schools (up to high school) however, very expensive (you could add this one to the benefit list to be paid by employer)
5. Would it be possible to have normal western facilities like dishwashers, washing machines, dryers at home?
Yes very normal - or you could live in Palm city -Dubai like standard
6.What does the term 'furnished house' mean and include?
Fully Fur.
7. How many paid trips back home can/should be expected by us in a year?
upon employer sometimes more than one.
My sincere thanks for your taking the time to reply.

Hi Nia... most of your questions have been answered, but I think I could elaborate on a few -
Nia72 wrote:Hello,

My husband has been asked to quote a figure for the post of General manager in hospitality and tourism. Essentially,he will need to set up the office and hire people and get the business going as the company is just establishing itself.
My queries are:
1. What's the best salary that he can expect?
As mentioned by many others, salaries in Libya vary according to different sectors and employers. Except for the oil & gas sector, Indians (& other Asians)in Libya are usually paid a lower salary than expats from the U.S./U.K. Engineers from India(info. from the few I know) are paid between $3,000 to $8,000 per month, depending on the company they are working for, their designation and years of experince. Other benefits given are accomodation, transportation, air-tickets etc. Some companies also pay some additional allowance - 600 to 1000 Libyan Dinars in cash for local expenses. For bigger companies, it maybe slightly higher. I don't know about the hospitality sector..
2. What expat benefits are standard feature of an expat package? Is the package dependent on nationality/race?
Most packages include furnished accomodation, local transportation/car, air-tickets once/twice a year for employee & family, medical insurance. Tuition fees for children is a very important part of the package since the fees in the International & British Schools are very high ... above $10,000 per year, depending on the class. You can check the school websites - http://www.internationalschooltripoli.com/http://www.britishschooltripoli.com/. The Indian School is not expensive, but not of the standard of schools in India.
3. Would it be better to move there at single-status?
Depends on you!! A single person can get quite bored here.
4. What is the standard of education in Libya?
The International, British & American schools are o.k. but very expensive.
5. Would it be possible to have normal western facilities like dishwashers, washing machines, dryers at home?
Yes
6.What does the term 'furnished house' mean and include?
Almost everything you'll need.
7. How many paid trips back home can/should be expected by us in a year?
Usually once ... some give two (some companies give twice a year for a single person but once if they are on family status - you have to negotiate) ... also depends on your visa ... if your husband is on a business visa he may have to leave the country in any case after 6 months for visa renewal.
I hope this helps.
