Year Around Weather In Costal Cities

Good Afternoon,

Perhaps someone can help us.

We are giving serious thought to moving to Ecuador.  My choice would be to relocate to one of the beachside cities such as Salinas.

I read description of the weather as “much of the coast has crystal-clear days from late December to early April.  For the rest of the year most days are often overcast."  Our question is this:  Is "overcast" an accurate description of the weather from May thru November?  By overcast does that mean that the sun is seldom seen?

We would greatly appreciate your input.

Thanks,

Don & Chris

Hi Don and Chris;

Overcast means different things to different people.
I live on the coast between Jama and Pedernales. To us, overcast is sometimes where the sun is not seen but mostly its what moves in, either in the morning and burns off or rolls in the later afternoon. I am 5 minutes south of the equator at 00.06 degrees. I will tell you that this year has been a very strange weather pattern, and there has been more rain and overcast then I have ever seen. I spoke to many people that have lived here much longer and am told that this phenomenon occurs about every 10 to 12 years, so I am not worrying about it...;-). I live in Florida part time so I am accustomed to overcast and rain.
Let me know if I can help you in any way.

Larry:

What are the temperatures on your part of the coast?  I assume they are the same year round, but maybe not?  highs?  lows?
