Drinking tap water

Is it safe to drink the tap water here in the UAE? I have heard different things about Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah.

I would prefer to drink the tap water if possible, but I have been told of a number of possible risks.

Besides the risks of drinking tap water, the taste is awful, not to mention the side effects...

If you are insist to drink it, I advice you to boil a couple of minutes before consumption.
Using the water for cooking is not a problem.
