We will probably move to Maadi (from US) in Dec/Jan and am looking at homes ... and I want to know if a pool is more trouble than its worth?  Have 2 kids.

you buying or renting, staying forever or just a temporary assignment of a short term nature.

you can join the ace or Maadi club both have pools and you will even find some schools have pools which may be available to the students also.

it could also depend on who you work for and what type of work you are doing, for membership in certain facilities.

Corporate Move - we will rent for 2 years.  Tks for club info will research them.  Kids would love a pool at home - need advice. It is usual ?  Needed?
and ... can I get Marmite in the Supermarkets? !

Difficult to find a villa/apartment in Maadi with a pool and if you do, it will be very expensive and probably very overlooked.  I suggest that if a pool of your own is a priority then you look at finding a place in the suburbs.  El Rehab City, Kattameya Heights, Tagamoa El Khamis.  If you live in one of the gated communities (they are called compounds here) then the children can ride their bikes freely and go for walks.  Maadi is now just part of Cairo, very busy and very crowded.  Journey time from Kattameya to Maadi about 20 minutes depending on traffic.

There are buildings around maadi which have pools we lived in one for about three years but never used the pool!

Don't recall seeing marmite available in the local market.

we lived in Maadi for about six years, we just joined the clubs i mentioned above one is related and tied to USG defense contracts/contractors.

some of the buildings have pools but as shorouky points out.

the new outskirts of Cairo mentioned by shorouky are a better choice for any real fresh air movement and greater freedom for the children. I'm about twenty minutes further outside of Cairo in shorouk city in an open area (drive time to maadi about forty five minutes) which is starting to fill up with people. we also allow the kids to go out or walk the dog and or visit a couple of our close by neighbors.
