hi , salam,
- Can anyone tell me if a muslim family can live in a compound in Jeddah ? or compounds are reserved for non-muslim expats ?
- Does a Muslim have to pray and fast in Ramadan when living in Jeddah ? I mean obligated by law , or it's a personal question. When it's prayer time, as Muslim, do I have to go to the mosq ?
thanks

Some compounds allow Saudi and Arab families to mix with Expat families.  Other compounds are for Expats only.  There is no restriction (as far as I know) regarding Muslims living on compounds that have non-Muslims on them.  (Someone may correct me here).

In Jeddah, it is unlikely that you'll be TOLD (ordered) to go to prayer (a mosque) by the "religious police."  I have seen it happen in Riyadh, however and I would imagine it could happen in more conservative areas (Burayda, for example).

Best thing you could do is contact compounds directly and apply with your "Muslim" name...and see what happens.

Best of luck.

You don't HAVE TO fast during Ramadan, though when in public you should not be eating, drinking, smoking, chewing gum, etc.  In the privacy of your own home - up to you.  ;)

Hello Abdou,

All compounds to my knowledge will welcome Muslims and non-muslims alike.

During the month of Ramadan, you will be expected to fast by muslims around you and in case you are seen eating and drinking in public or even in dining area of your office, it will be taken as  disrespect to Islam. Same applies to muslims not being regular in prayers.  :dumbom:
