Music in India

Post new topic

Kenjee

Hi,

Music is said to be a universal language. Indeed it helps to discover and better understand the culture of a country.

What are the most popular music genres in India? How about traditional music and instruments?

Who are the local artists you would recommend?

Where can you listen to them: are there any concerts or music festival held regularly?

Thank you in advance for participating,

Kenjee

Bangalore is the musical capital of India. Shillong is a close second.

You find a rich tradition of Western classical and contemporary music and Carnatic music in Bangalore. They coexist without conflict. There are even crossover fusion bands in Bangalore.

There is a higher percentage of musically aware and tuned audience than anywhere in India. People really know their music technically here, or at least a majority of them.

Bollywood noise has always pushed other genres to the backstage.
But not in Bangalore, where mainstream English Rock, Heavy metal, Pop, Jazz bands, Opera singers, all of them can be found.

One nite stand is one of the most happening English Pop bands in Bangalore and India at the moment.

Music is a common universal language, it has no difference on the grounds of caste, creed, sex, religion and language. As far as India is concerned more than thousands of films are released every year. So here music has no borders as more than hundreds of lanuages are there and all listening to each and every variety of music.
