Requirement to provide medical insurance to work in the UK

To anyone out there that can validate a requirement from a company making application to the British Home Office for a work visa on my behalf and tell me that I am to get medical insurance from the likes of AIG UK before a visa is granted.

Thoughts please.

Rubbish! you are entitled to use the NHS if you have a work visa. Is this company the company who is going to employ you? Are they registered with the Home Office as a Tier 2 sponsor? What's the job? Is it on the UK occupation shortage list? I am very suspicious! See:
