Hi guys,i would like to travel to Kampala for a short trip lasting two weeks from the second week of Sept.

Am kenyan and as far as i know i only need to take my id card with me to Uganda.

Anyone who has travelled to kampala in the last couple days, kindly clarify for me if that is the case or if there is anything else i need to know or take with me.

Oh,and i will be travelling by bus. Thanks  in advance guys.

lynn85

i think getting a permit is better than just using an id ...it will take you time to get the permit at the boder and the bus wont wait for you ,,also carry your passport photos at night they overcharge up to 500

rachelnaj

Hi Lynn, thanks for the info.Kindly clarify for me on the bit where at night they overcharge by 500.Is it better then to travel during the day?

lynn85

no its not about bus its about passport photos ,,if you dont have a permit you must apply one at the boader since its at night and most studios will be closed they tend to overcharge ,,,,,and don't change any currency at the boader you will get fake money............now you are good to go all the best enjoy matoke and binyebo

rachelnaj

Thanks a bunch lynn,most appreciated.

Africa Nut

You are correct. you only need your ID to cross the border.

rachelnaj

Africa nut,i thought so too but then with what lynn said,am not so sure any more so i decided to just get the pass,if they need to see it,ok if not, just as good so long as i get to Kampala.

I have been getting varied info so far so i thought it best to just have a pass.
Thanks Africa nut

My brother in law frequently travels between Kenya/Uganda and Rwanda. he uses only his ID, but if you are nervous please do see if they will give you the travel permit. please update us after you travel. safe journey

Benson Maweu MUsau

You only. Your ID at the border to get a temporally pass.

rachelnaj

Thanks Africa nut and Benson. So, suppose i go the id way, what else do i need to know or carry that they might need to see or check at the border?do i need to pay for something and if so,what and how much?

Thanks in advance guys.

Eunia

We have a high commission office on Kenyatta avenue in Uganda house you will be briefed on whatever you need to have with you.

Africa Nut

You don't need anything else and there is no charge. they will ask you why you are travelling to UG and what you intend to do while there so be clear about your intentions.

rachelnaj

Thanks Africa nut, that is a relief to know.

Eunia,i might drop by if i get the time.

Thanks guys,appreciated:)
