That's the bloke I used to change with.

As you come up the street from Qadisiya Square (rather, roundabout) towards Dahra, the camera/mobile phone shop is on the left, about 50m before the main Dahra junction.

Did you know the shop opposite that camera/mobile shop on the other side (small grocery shop) also handles this business.

Sandman, are you a man or woman? If you're a man then why is your avatar a picture of a woman's chest? And if you're a woman then why the heck is your name sandman?
Just curious.

Dahra souq, to the right of the row of butchers shops, next door to the cigarette stand there is a small grocers. I have changed USD, GBP and Euro to LYD here recently, the rate is the same if not better than the going rate. I am unsure if they sell or only buy though.

Almost facing this grocery shop (on the other side of the road)
is the camera shop.

Try Aman Bank, they have many branches throughout the city.

Hallo.

I have not been in Libya almost 10 years, but I will come again this year and I have some questions abt money.
Is there still best exchange rates on "black market" not in banks?
Is there still 100$ bank note with better exchange rate than smaller notes?

Thank You in advance.

gelincek

Hi, you can change currency nearby Big Hotel ( al Fondok al kabeer) in the city centre.
There is ( Aman Bank Bus ) its color yellow and blue. Ask the person who sits inside for a change of USD or EU, I made this before, when I ask prices of the the gold markets and the normal shops they made the changing for less for their own profit. Any Aman bank bus will change the currency for you. I also changed less than 100 Dollar notes.
Good luck all :-)

Sleepy Hollow

If you are in ALKABEER HOTEL then you are there. in the ground floor there is a small branch for the Tejara and Tanmeya Bank (Bank of Commerce and Development) my advise is to always exchange in banks because you get a receipt and it is official. Shops and Gold market are black markets and it is unofficial and against the law and sometimes you end up with fake notes. Bank of Commerce and Developments have branches everywhere in Tripoli and their exchange rate is very good.

best rates i got was at the currency exchange office at the entrance of suk talat. jewelry stores near the green square also change currency but their rates are higher compared to currency exchange offices and banks.

Les Pat

I agree - Best place is the phone/camera shop near the traffic Lights opposite SOUQ DAHRA

I had no idea about the grocers (note from Kes) may check it out

sandman seems to the best directions well described

USB means USD?

bs.ragavan

Thanks for all,very useful details...

and i have a question....how much money can i take out to India from Libya and which currency is preferable to exchange in India..

Anybody please help me.

Thanks

Sandman6

Any hard currency - EUR, USD, GBP - whichever gets you the best exchange rate. It's generally easier to get Euros there.

officeboy

Pounds seem a bit scarce at the moment,
But I changed a load LYD to GBP this morning and got a rate of 2.057 LYD = 1.00 GBP.
This was at one of the Gold shops in the Medina (most do it)
