Where to live?

Hi all,
I'm ah newbie, even though I've been in Libya for 2 years. (well - one year as I'm on rotation)

My office is at Daht Al Imad towers, and I've been living only 200m away in an nicish apartment.  Great for convenience.  No car required. No stress on the roads.   All was well until the past month.

Construction has started on Libya's tallest building.  And its located directly outside my bedroom window.  I had finally gotten used to sound of cops playing with their space invader sirens, but the foundation core barrel rigs and jackhammers are too much.  And I'm guessing this building will not be finished by Christmas.

Is there such a thing as a quiet area to live in the centre of Tripoli?

I don't need anything fancy (although a sea view is always nice). I'd be ok with walking a few kilometres but I dont really want to commute to Zanzur every day.

Any suggestions?

If you go east down the sea road the area just beyond Radisson Blu seems ok ... though it may be a bit far for you ... it's called Zawiyat Dahmani...

That's where I live, but I would hardly call it quiet right enough, decent area though.

500-1500 meters south/south west of there ^, you'll find relatively quite residential areas (southern Zawet Addehmani/northern Nofalee-een). Just the occasional fireworks and few matrimonial enslavement celebrations in the summer.

But you may need more than few pairs of Mephistos if you're gonna walk that far every day. 4-6 kilos each way!

Thanks for the suggestions.  I might have to go for a bit more of a hike around to get idea of what these areas are like.  I don't mind walking if there's not too many major road crossings.
In the meantime maybe i'll try some double glazing if I can get that organised. or earplugs.

Let us know how it turns out
