I am working in customer service industry, i am Egyptian, my work has been always to customers in the west, usually united states and Canada, regarding my experience I have never seen people so polite like Canadians, i have dealt with Americans, English, Indians, people from all over the world, and as a comparison to Americans, I don't wanna insult Americans, but most of the Americans customers are so rude, and when one of them asks me where i am located, and when he knows that I am in Cairo Egypt he becomes even more rude, but for Canadians when some one knows that I am in Egypt he becomes more excited, that i sometimes after i finish my shift (even i have been working this job for a long time) i wish i could stay more at the shift because i enjoy helping these guys.
Most of my work with Canadians has been in the travel industry, my Experience about them that they are very affected by the united states, and always travel there, or within Canada, they aren't racist, they don't have a president, they follow the united Kingdom, so i never dealt with anyone of these guys except for business, so i was very interested of knowing these guys more in personal treatment, sharing cultures, and so on

Dear iame

Allow me to introduce my self, I am also Egyptian,Excuse me if I am telling you that you should not generalize that issue of being rude, cause rudeness have got no nationality, so i prefer not to criticize nations as this is based on a personal experience and you will find good and bad in each nation, thanks.

i agree with my friend, but i didn't generalize, i said most of the customers according to my experience, yet a lot of them are so nice as well

Iame,

I think that the job you have lends itself to a bad impression of Americans.  My sister works in the same job.  In a customer service environment you're dealing with people who are most likely angry and frustrated and don't have the national consumer laws supporting them that Canadians do, so when they speak with you they're probably venting their anger to you (with you being the representative of the company).  I live near the US and Canadian border and part of my family is US and part Canadian, so see both sides.  It really makes me sad to see what some Egyptians think of America too.  When I watch the American television shows that are available here in Egypt I'm appalled with the impression it gives of Americans.  Hollywood and the news media do not represent the real America and it makes me a bit angry.  I feel the same for the impressions many Americans get of Egypt through television and the news.  Most Americans are only familiar with the Egyptians who flew the planes on 9/11 and people like that, not the real Egyptians here, and they're reacting out of fear.  The media plays on that fear on both sides since it puts money in their pockets, which is what it comes down to I think.
