Dear Expats, don't allow your cats out

Dear Expats,
Almost everybody knows that things here are completely different from the western part of the world, and it applies also on cats. I got a phone call today from a French expat stating that she lost one of her kittens coz he didn't come back home as usual. It's been 4 days now and the kitten is lost after we found him a foster home. Why should a kitten's destiny be the harsh streets of Cairo while he already has a home waiting for him?? Simply because his owner used to allow him out thinking that things in Egypt go like how they are in the west. Now, I am very torn and broken-hearted about him, not knowing what to do. But, I find it a good chance to advise everybody NEVER to make this mistake.
Cats are more healthy inside and it's not true that they would be unhappy. They are happy and healthy inside, just get them balls to play with and preferably a cat tree to climb.
The risk of catching diseases from the garden is high, not any less. At least they may fight with the stray cats and get hurt. If you want your cat/kitten to lose an eye, then allow him out.
PLEASE, keep your cats inside the house and don't even allow them in the garden. Things here are COMPLETEY different than in the west.

I realy hope it was not a white fluffy kitten in the Helioplis area. Its so sad I saw one get run over and the driver did not stop, in fact nobody cared apart from me but it was too late.
Cairo is a very dangerous place for kitties, was thinking about bringing my two over but i think they are safer in London.

Dear sweet missdarcey, I am so sad about what I just heard, Did she die??? or still alive??? Please, if she's still alive or disabled, contact me to refer you to a shelter fast to help her.
The kitten the French expat lost is white and orange, I may put his pic soon. Please, don't bring any cat to Egypt because the eastern part of the world is so cruel for cats and you saw no one cared except for you upon seeing a kittie ran over by a car. I hope that Egypt will regain the Pharaonic values soon and leave the non-Egyptian culture they adopted. The ancient Egyptians cared the best for cats and one would surely be brought to a court for hurting a cat and in some cases sentenced to death, believe it or not, I read about that many times. And, the ancient Egyptian would make a priority to save his cat first of all in case his/her house was burnt. Now, things are like how you saw and I hear many stories from expats like the one you just told. I try to help with all I can but sometimes I fail to give full support due to the number of cats in bad cases.
Accept my best regards and full respect

Dear sweetie,
I completely agree with you about keeping your cat in coz it's safer and healthier. You can get him balls which are very cheap here and sold everywhere and get him a cat tree or play with him with ropes but don't leave them on the ground after the playing sessions coz ropes are dangerous and the cat may choke or hurt himself.
I am so happy that expats started to react and I hope we won't lose a kitten like the one lost by the French expat coz it's still bleeding my heart that we can't find him till now. Although we are making lots of effort, I don't feel that it's likely to find him again. However, we won't lose hope.
Please keep your cats inside coz it's safer.
yes it is very very sad. she did not make it her injuries were too severe. she was white bodied and a tiny bit of orange around the head and a white fluffy tail about 12 weeks old. Realy hope it is not the same one this was on wednesday night in Helioplis area.
Whether she was a loved kitten with a home or a street kitten with no home it is un excusable what happened.

Of course it is unexcusable but come people have very hard hearts and they think animals are just things with no soul. I contacted the French expat and we are keeping searching for the kitten. I hope he is not the one run over by a car.
This i a disgrace wht happened to this poor thing. How dare those ppl hurt those helpless animals??!!!

I am even more sad today. The kids were burying a little disabled kitten alive in sand. An egyptian woman ran to rescue him. She put him in the balcony and didn't listen to my many trials to convince her to get him inside the apartment. He didn't do his business (urinate and .....) well, so I told her about a medicine which can help him. She didn't buy the medicine and still she kept being careless about the kitten till he died yesterday. I feel guilty that I was late in searching for a foster home for him and I cried a lot yesterday coz the shelter asked me to tell her to bring him but it was too late, it was around the time he died already. I asked her to take good care of him until there's a place for him at any shelter but she kept being careless, not cleaning him and the insects and fleas flooded over his body.
If any expat can volunteer, or donate at any shelter in Egypt, please don't hesitate. If any expat can start a shelter anywhere in Egypt, please do it. If any expat can foster or adopt one of the cats who need that, please do not hesitate.
I myself is spending most of my time online trying to help find homes for poor cats about to be homeless. Life is sad but Happy Feast to all of you. We have to smile as long as we can.
Dear Egylover4ever
thank you for your interest in the poor cats and animals here in Egypt
I'm Egyptian and i'm very sad about the suffering of most of street animals here in Egypt, although our past as you know and our religion invites us to respect all animals not only cats.
i hope this ends soon
by the way i love your signature "Animal Rights Activist and a human b4 all"

Thanks a lot Momen. What makes me sad is the drastic change from back in the pharaonic time (when Egyptians respected animals) and now. I saw kids yesterday throwing a poor kittie with stones. I used to shout at kids who do that but i got to figure out that shouting makes them more stubborn and they keep what they r doing, if not before your eyes, then it's at another time with some other kittie cats.
I decided to try another way this time, so I just put my clothes on and went down to talk to them very nicely which made me even understand their motive behind doing that. They said that they throw the black kitten with stones coz they think she's a devil. That was SHOCKING. But, because i'm a muslim and i read a lot about islam, I could make them understand that there's no Hadith in this respect about cats and it was about another black animal not cats. Finally, they seemed to be understanding and I'm waiting to see. I hope they won't do it again coz the kitten was screaming loud of pain and they did that in front of her mom cat. It was more like slaying a kid under the sight of his mom. HORRIBLE
It's a good chance that I can exchange my thoughts with expats and good egyptians in this respect coz animals actually need our help.
Thanks a lot for ur sweet reply.
As for my signature, it's a way to make everyone understands that it's very humanly to treat God's creatures well and INHUMAN to mistreat them.
I'm so sorry egylover4ever to hear that
it was an old superstition and i wonder how could anyone still believing it now
and i'm with you in your talk with them and think they will stop doing this (In Shaa Allah).
thank you again for your activity
My Regards,
Momen
