Hi Guys,

a questions for foreigners who have been working in Bulgaria for a while:
In order to work somewhere, Foreign people need to register and have a ID number and a small blue book, which will prove they pay tax.
How do I get this number?

english teachers in Sofia: if you re working in more than one school, how did you register?

Thank you!!!
HAve a good day,

Elsa

frenchy_elsa if you are working as self-employed is a bit more complicated compared if you are working as an employee.

You should have obtained by now a registration number(SSN/PPS). If you are getting paid as a contractor, I would suggest that you locate a good accountant, that should not be hard, and let them work it out on your behalf.

The "little blue book" you are referring to (at one point was brown § white color), is a type of document you buy yourself from a book store. You have to present it to the human resources or accounting department where you work, and they will complete everything necessary for you; such as type of position, salary, hours, any changes in those. They may even issue it for you from the company you are working for. For every position, in different companies, you have different such document. It is usually kept in the HR or Accounting department.

The new (blue) type of "trudova knijka":http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSiMeRA__Fg2K7tusiSRHjmeIqrgHRmskrqbPcglURzO_xfKpQ&t=1&usg=__bqNZRJFs1xP4Lj9-41NDQBkJLCQ=

To get that registration number, you must go to the office of NRA (НАП)-http://portal.nap.bg/?lang=en . All you have to do is complete a form and they will issue you the registration number. You should have your passport & national ID card, just in case both. Here is a copy of the form you must complete to get that registration number: http://tax.bg/bg/documents/view/188/10/0 (click on the green link: Изтегляне на доумента Save, complete and submit to the office nearest to you. Locate it from the NRA link above.

You only need 1 registration number and then every employer you work for (or if you are a contractor making your own SS contributions) will complete this "little blue book" for you.

World Expat,
First of all, thank you very much!
Then... :-)
I am asking this because as an English teacher, people say it is better to make your own "one self" company than be employed by only one employer.
In order to do so, is it the same process? I buy the blue book, I go make my registration number and I present the book to the different schools I work for?
I guess it might be a bit more complicated than that;)

Thanks again

Dear Elsa, It is simpler to work as an employee rather than a contractor. As a contractor you would be better off to have an accountant to file the tax on your behalf and do all the other deductions in connection with social security payments, etc. If you get that registration number-ЛНЧ, all you have to do is give to the employer that blue book, and they will fill in the information, and your tax will be deducted from your payment before you get the net. That for both employers, same "little blue book." If you do not have such a "little blue book", the employer has the obligation to give you one on the 1st day of your employment. The rule, I believe is, that this document must be kept at your employer. So if you have more than one, it might be a bit of an issue, and that is why most employers do not care that much to keep it.
