Jacqui

I currently live in the Auvergne region of France with my husband and mother and father. We are finding the Auvergne, although a beautiful place and the people very welcoming, a little quiet for us and would like to move nearer the cost and more tourism and restaurants. We are considering la rochelle or saintes. Any help would be grateful

Jacqui,
La Rochelle / Royan etc are like most other "holiday resorts" overcrowded in the summer and dead in the winter.

I don't know how long you have lived here to see how the French spend their "free time". They are a very family orientated nation and spend a lot of free time visiting family members, not just mum and Dad, but brothers sisters aunties uncles etc etc.

Apart from sprawling metropolis's such as Paris, there is not a lot going on anywhere, but a happy medium such as Angouleme --Poitiers --- might give you the "lift" you want without leavng your parents wishing they had stayed where they were
