Vietnamese corporate culture

hello all,

please advise if i am posting in the wrong area.

i am new to this forum and Hanoi. i have been in hanoi for 2 weeks now, and i believe i might be in a bit of a pickle.

i want to know what the vietnamese corporate culture is like.

-bottom line: will they check to see if I indeed hold 2 degrees? even though i have only one.
how severe are the punishment? as in the States, I would be fired and penalized salary and such perhaps?

- but if they dont actually do a full background check, i think i would be ok doing my intended job description. i had no intention to "inflate" my resume.

-what is the best course of action?

i want to know, because i want to turn the job down, since i think that it will be too difficult for me to explain, my reasoning for my actions.

when i applied for my job here, and set to transfer... i said i had 2 degrees. very big mistake on my behalf.

i do have a degree in communications, but i don't have a 2nd degree in english.

-i know totally my fault. but, as i didn't realize that my field was going to be in English, i didn't know how to say that i MINORED in English.

Don't sweat it. Vietnam is not a black and white system, so don't panic if you think you've "broken the rules". If you feel that way now, you won't make it here !

Find a way to straighten it out, but don't make a big deal out of it. If it's not of primary importance to your work, they probably won't look into it. Just show them your "real" degree and go on about how great it is, chances are they'll forget about the English one, because, well, if you know English at all, thats what counts!

Good luck, and just relax a bit. People seem to improvise quite a lot here.

You could have boasted to have 4 degrees and how great you are..That's generally how people are here so you should be fine. Just keep calm
