Does anyone know where I can find someone who can interpret for me during a 2-hour meeting? I have had an offer from one interpreter who asked $500 for the job. I can't afford that, but do need help. The work is to summarize contributions to a discussion and to translate my contributions from English to Arabic. The meeting will be in Heliopolis on December 11.

Hello. Is that five hundred Dollars? I could beat those rates. I would need to know the General topic of discussion. I also need to check my calender.

The meeting is an annual general meeting of owners of residences in a touristic village in Sinai. The agenda is a report on the finances, the election of an owners' representative to deal with daily problems in the village, and something else that I can't remember. The meeting is scheduled to be 2 hours long.

I'm not so interested in the financial report as I'm already aware of the finances. What I need is someone who can tell me what is being said during other parts of the meeting (a summary is fine - don't need word-by-word translations) and to translate my contributions from English to Arabic.

Since nearly all of the owners are Egyptian, I expect a lot of cross talk and interruptions. From attending previous meetings, I am pretty sure that not much will be decided and that things may get a bit heated.

I am definitely not in the position to pay any where close to (or even within shouting distance of) $500. I thought that was pretty extreme for 2 hours work. Any fee I pay will have to be paid in LE.

How fluent is your Arabic?

Hi Kathy,

I have couple of questions:

1. Do you need like written report of the meeting?
2. Do you need a professional translator/interpreter, or you are OK with someone who is Fluent in English, but not working in the translation field?
3. What is the maximum, you are willing to pay?

If you don't feel comfortable answering any of these questions in public, please feel free to message me directly.

Thanks,
Hazem

Okay. Great. I am more than capable of handling the task which you request. I have completed an Arabic minor at university, and have been dealing with the language in the middle east for a decade.

No report needed. I just need to understand what's being said. I don't need an official interpreter/translator and from what I've seen, I can't afford one.

How can I message you privately? I'm new on the forum and don't know how to do that.

Dear Kathyl,

I will be more than happy to translate the documents in a way that engages the Arabic/Targeted audience equally, interpretation is also included in the price of $200, however, any foreseen expenses will have to be covered by you.

As a former advertising copywriter I may even be able to enhance translation to produce an even better result than you may expect with out changing the actual documents substance.

Sincerely,
Mohammed Al-Safari

Good morning.
I am a fluent speaker of both Arabic and English, and I'd gladly help.
Could you send me more details, though? Because I am wondering if the type of job you're applying to requires my knowledge of technical terms, of some sort, or if fluency in conversational English will do.

Have a good day!(:

kathyl

Thanks for the offer but I think I'm set for this meeting.

MS11

Best of luck, then!(:
