Protecting your credit score and identity?

Does anyone from Canada have any information on protecting your credit and identity while in CR besides paying an insurance company? Is there a way to turn your credit off when you are not in your home country?

FYI,

Some banking institutions use apps that allow the card holder to "turn on" and "turn off" credit and debit cards. One app I use is called "card valet".
You will have to check with your financial institution to see what they may offer.
