Dear Dan,

I do not know if you have moved to France since the time you sent this message.

I am a French chartered accountant and I will try to answer your question.

In France, personal income tax is  not  directly withheld on your revenues.

Income tax in France is based:
- on your worldwide revenues if you are a French tax resident (double taxation can be offset through various mecanisms according  to Tax treaties);
- on your French ource revenues if you are considered as a non  tax resident in France.

Income tax is calculated on the revenues of your "family"  and the tax rate is determined according to the following brackets:

from 0  to 5 963          0
from 5 963 to 11 896      5,5%
from 11 896 to 26 420     14%
from 26 420 to 70 830      30%
from 70 830               41%

In France, the tax returns for the year 2010 will have to be sent:
-for French tax residents:
by May 31 2011 if they are sent by regular post mail.
However, there are some exra deadlines, if you submit the tax return by internet.
- if you are not considered as a  French tax resident:
current June 2011.

Do not hesitate to contact me , should you need any other information.

Regards.
