Hi,

When living in a foreign country, you have to adapt to a new environment, various cultures and different social codes.

How did you manage to adjust to Fiji?

How long does it take to feel at home? Would you say it is an easy process?

According to you, what is key for a successful integration process in Fiji?

Thank you in advance for sharing your experience!

Priscilla

Hello Priscilla,

It does take some time to get used to living in a third world country.
If you expect the same kind of responses one might get in England
or the USA; you will be disappointed over and over again.
The fijian culture is very differe"nt.  They are friendly and helpful.
They will not say "I don't know to any question.  Some are hard
working.  Since they are poor they  are opportunistic - stealing is
problematic.  We love them as they are and over time adjust to
there way of thinking.  They are "live for today".  They do not
plan ahead and very few can save a nickel.
We just had a sever cylclone (Winston) hit Fiji and there is lots
of devastation.  What can be repaired is being done slowly.
Fiji is a beautiful place.  We started coming 35 years ago and built
our house 7 years ago.
I hope this is helpful

Is this note a joke?    We just had a category 5 cyclone rip through Fiji.  Many in my part of Fiji are homeless.

Becky Mankel

I was only speaking of Fiji in general.  This disaster will pass
and people will  rebuild as will we.

Becky, I was addressing the original note posted a few days after the cyclone.  Sorry if I offended.
