bonjour ya'll

okay i'm at my wits end... my computer keeps on crash/not responding and i dunno what's up with that plus my net seems to be going on the brink... all the lit are on on my router and the coffee machine looking thing but for some reason i constantly have to connect and disconnect my router and sometimes even unplug the coffee machine...

thankx

Samakauk

What is the connection between ur Coffee machine and the computer?:unsure

Mudman

Start at the beginning. Unplug everything from the computer. Get the computer running so it doesn't crash.
Then start plugging things back in until problem occurs.
Then you can try to find out what is causing the problem and start looking for a solution.

well A very serious case , you need to check to many things here.
first some routers get hot and stop working. Unplugging and plugging back is not solution to that.

Things to Do.

1 - Run your antivirus get all the bad things out , some virus casue trouble and block internet plus make computers go dull.

2 - Make sure all the hardwares are working properly . Go to
my computer - control panel - adminstrative tool - event viewer and look out for red marks.

3 - you internet might have finished check that as well.

4 - while you start up your Laptop ,, you might need to unplug any USB deviecs... sometimes the pc take a boot from there .

Anyways let me know what's up

Cheers

If the Wimax coffee machine is working (as in all the lights are glowing green) that means you've got internet there. Now, if your laptop keeps disconnecting with the router it's more likely a wireless hardware malfunction on your laptop.

Your best bet is to try and connect with another laptop to test if it's the router or the laptop with the wireless problem or you can simply buy a standard network cable for 2.5 LYD and connect via LAN to the bloody coffee machine (Oh I've got one of those and I hate it)

Sounds like you've either got malware, or a hardware problem. First, you'll wanna check out the possibility that it's a virus (or many) that have messed with your system. Go to download.com and download and install either avast or avira and run a full scan.

I should add that a lot of viruses will block the installation/running of antivirus programs. If that happens then you can try rebooting in safe mode (restart, keeping mashing the F8 key until the menu comes up) and then installing/running the antivirus app. If that doesn't work your only real option is to reformat (see below) but hey, at least you know what the problem is.

Second, is there any hardware you've recently installed? Do you remember changing any settings or installing anything around the time that this problem got started (sometimes programs that you install end up messing with your some of system's configuration)? You might wanna try a system restore, found in start>programs>accessories>system tools in WinXP. I'm not sure what the directory's called in Vista or W7 but it should be something very similar.

If neither option works then the only thing for you to do besides show the computer to somebody who's good with computers is reformat the drive and install windows. While this is guaranteed to get rid of the instability/slowness it's obviously a big nuisance because you have to backup your stuff/reinstall your programs after you do it.

Oh, and the "coffee maker thing" is called a modem :)

I am really sorry, I just realised the type of Wimax u talking about. u r very right about calling it coffee machine, nice name.

Everything was mentioned above is right. you may add this to the points.

If you installed any softwares recently. try uninstalling them it may fix the problem.

The first webcam ever to be connected to the internet was the camera that was looking at the coffee machine in the MIT lab.
The students where tired of coming from the dormitory to find the mug empty. So they set up a camera and connected it to the network so that they could see when the mug had just brewed.
The camera was online till sometime in the 2000s I think.

just my 2 cents.

Get a Mac... :D

That's a Mac, not the heart attack in a bun shaite :(

thanks guys will try all the tips ... if you don't hear from me in a couple days it probably means i have managed to fry my comp.

@samakauk
can't take credit for the name... read it in a previous post... well now i know what it's called... a modem...say it with me now  MO-DEM ( well i feel sheepish :|)

@sandman6
that's what my sis' keeps telling me but until i get a job not really an option heck it wont be an option till my brats graduate college and that's in 20 odd years :sosad:

go linux.
It has a somewhat steep learning curve but it is worthwhile.
It is very stable. There are no virus' and it is very secure.
and free.

you can try it with a livecd.

download for example ubuntu from ubuntu.com. burn it to a blank cd or boot from usb drive. and it will connect to the coffee machine just fine.
you can surf the net and try it for a while. then, if you are happy with it you can install it with a click.

yadayadayada

a steep learning curve :unsure... anything that takes all of 5 minutes to figure out is beyond my cerebral capabilities at the moment... but if i get really desperate i'll give it a try..thanks

Also i found a billion errors on my event viewer:
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort0
event id:11
source:atapi

I googled but most of the stuff was over my head... something about SATA another about BIOS i needed a dictionary just to get from one line to another...

Do my brats really need a college fund? cuz that MAC is looking like an option :D

any input??

I'll fix your software problems if we can meet at a place with an internet connection.

I'll also give you an ubuntu CD for you to try if you want.

Can you hang on for another week?

or if you can come to tajura, I'll get our IT guy have a look. :D
