Can I send from Philippines TO my country?

FilAmericanMom

"Balik" means "to return" and "bayan" means "country", or more specifically, "home country." In Philippine terminology, a "balikbayan" is a Filipino who lives or lived abroad and is currently in the Philippines either for short period, such as for a vacation, work assignment, etc, or long term, such as retirement. I am a balikbayan. My uncle, who went on vacation here for a few weeks, was a balikbayan during his stay here.

A "balikbayan box" refers to the 2' x 2' x 2' airline cargo boxes brought by Filipinos to their home country during visits (often containing gifts bought abroad for friends and family) and back (containing souvenirs and Philippine delicacies for friends and family abroad). It is preferred by many balikbayans compared to luggage because it is lighter and you can stuff more things in there. The term also refers to flat-rate boxed packages sent from abroad to the Philippines via shipping companies.

Hi Sirrobcentral you can send from the Philippines to here in the US ,but it is normally not worth it unless it is something we cannot get here. I use Atlas shipping and UMAC shipping to send things there. I send things I cannot buy or that there is not enough profit reason to sell it there in S&R or any place else. My good friend is the manager of UMAC in Markina and it still takes 2-5 months to get something sent there. 3 months is the normal time, 5 months is the outside time,so anything you send must have a long shelf life.  Hope this helps,I would still like to talk to you privately about getting workman to fix some houses that I brought half finished in Taguig. Thanks

...And there was me thinking 'balikbayan' was a term used for dismantling Harley Davidson's, sending the parts to the Philippines, reassembling the bike and driving it around on "for registration" plates for the rest of its natural life?

haha ;)

Balikbayan means returning Filipino residents.
Regarding the shipment, maybe you heard balikbayan boxes. That was consolidated shipment from other country sending their things/boxes to their family here in the Philippines.

If you are pertaining to a person, balikbayans are Filipinos who decided to migrate in another country, or work in another country and are back here in the Philippines. If you are pertaining to the box, the box contains products (clothes, hygiene products, shoes, chocolates, etc) that are sent by Filipinos who are working and residing in another country to their family/relatives who are in the Philippines.
