Marrying a UK citizen and coming to live in the UK. Any advice?

I am a UK citizen and I am thinking of getting married to my Argentine Partner, we are at present living in Argentina. We have looked up on the internet for information about coming to the UK but we are still confused.

Does anyone have some experience or advice for us?

How much money do I need to earn to show I can keep her? And for how long do I need to go back?

She needs to receive entry clearance when she is in Argentina, does anyone know what is needed for this.

We would love to hear from anyone who has been through this, especially Argentine British couples...........thanks!

As far as how much money you will need - there is no magic number.  You just need to be able to show you can support her and you without relying on additional public funds for her (although you can claim benefits to which YOU are entitled).

If you marry in Argentina, she will then need to apply for a spouse visa.  She will need to take an English test and then send her application and supporting documents to the British Consulate and they will make their decision based on the documentation provided.  A list of what needs to be sent can be found here:  http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/resources/en/ … settlement

If you have more specific questions, I am happy to help.

Thanks for replying! It was very helpful and considerate of you.

We do have another question. Do you know if and for how long we need to prove that we have been together before or after being married? In order to enter the UK.

Chaz,

Not sure if you're still looking for info. on this, but my husband is a UK citizen and I moved here from the US in July.  I have a spousal visa that we acquired after getting married in the US in May.  We had known each other for less than a year (about 9 months) when we applied for the visa, and we sent in records of plane tickets purchased, phone records to indicate our contact, and Skype calls.  They want to know that you have an established relationship and that you have spent time together in person.

We sent a chronological sort of history of our meeting, which included photos.

We were granted the visa pretty quickly (in a few weeks).

Hope this helps, and best of luck!

Tara
