Greeting, All,
My name is Ayana. I am a teacher in the US. I am looking to start a new life abroad, as an expat. I am interested in pursuing employment as a teacher, but have found it difficult because my teaching license is for teaching students with special education needs. I would love to visit/relocate to Durban and am interested in positions other than that of a teacher if it will allow me to be self sustaining while abroad. I look forward to reading and learning from you all in this forum.
Peace,
Ayana

Hi Everyone!
I am from Sri Lanka but looking to start a new chapter of my life in South Africa (Jozie for starters) from the End of August this year. My best friend lives and works there so we decided that I would try my best to make South Africa my new home.
I visited in may and fell absolutely in love with the atmosphere, the people, the food and of course the wine!. I really felt at home very quickly so I know this is going to be a good move for me.
My main concern is looking for work so I would really appreciate any tips you could give me. I am a an experienced and qualified trainer, coach and behavioural analyst so my realm would be people development, strategic human resource management/planning etc. I also work a lot in communication so effective communication is also within my scope.
I was also wondering how hard it would be to apply for a resident visa? Would that help my employment prospects? Am open to any and all suggestions but I am super excited about the move.
Would love to also meet new people and make new friends - all part of the adventure
Thank you for the warm welcome!
Hi Christine,
Welcome to Joburg, have you moved already?
I found this really useful when we were looking for schools - translatingme.org/time-for-tea/2017/2/27/choosing-a-school-in-johannesburg
All depends which area you are living in, and if you would like to go local or international.
Enjoy your time here.

I am an America, well traveled over most of the world, married to a S. African who now carried dual citizenship (SA/USA).
I retired a year ago. My wife and I moved from the Mid-West USA, to the Southern Cape (Municipality of Mossel Bay).
I am especially interested in making contact with other Americans living in S. Africa.
Hi all! I'm a Canadian who moved to Pretoria with my wife and two young kids in Sept 2016.
I find everything about South Africa wonderful and hilarious. I've made friends with people from all over the world, and I'm already bummed I'll have to return home in a couple of years.
I'm interested in discovering new places to explore, because we want to make the most of our time here.
I blog about our experiences here: mapleandmarula.com
I read your blog with enjoyment and warm heart felt laughter. If you ever have a hanker'n to holiday in the Southern Cape - let me know. My wife and I would enjoy helping you sort out arrangements, entertaining your time and making your family's visit worth the effort of the trip.
The Western Cape - actually our part named Eden - in the "Southern Cape" is nothing like any other part of S. Africa you have experienced. You will think you are in a different country.
Oh, don't you worry- we WILL be hitting you up when we head down that way! It's just a matter of when.
I'm glad you enjoy the blog- new post is coming today (I think. If I can get my crap together)
Hi.I am interested in immigrating to Madagascar and purchasing a bar.what do you guys think.craig

Hi, my name is Andrew, and I am very interested in moving to beautiful Cape Town, South Africa with my girlfriend in the near future. If anyone from Cape Town or nearby (or anyone who knows) could educate me on life and culture in the area, I would really appreciate it. I'd love to talk. I have done a lot of research, but I think it's much better and respectful to learn from people who live there. Feel free to ask me anything. Add me if you'd like!
