Just wanted to let those of you in Egypt know that my thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of chaos. I know you won't be reading this until the internet is operating again, but I wish you the best!

eltviola

Hi, I just reached the UK. Tried to keep in touch with as many expats as possible and so far I think everyone's ok. Thanks for the message. Hope today's announcement will appease people a bit.

snowwhite

Glad you made it out safely! Yes, let's hope things calm down after the news today.

Shorouk

Hi everybody, Egypt is back on-line and the good decent people of Egypt hopefully will prevail and benefit from this difficult period we are passing Thur.

I have witnessed the glean of hope return to the faces and eyes of the people even with many understanding that rebuilding a real free, fair functioning civil society will be extremely difficult with the rewards out weighing, the ultimate sacrifices recently made by many decent good people of Egypt.

I applaud the masses of people which finally confronted this very broad reaching issue in a peaceful manner.

I'm positive, this is a bitter sweet time for the family of kahled Said and the thousand of others that went before him.

I pray that god helps the good decent people of this movement going forward to fulfill their expectations of they're god giving rights equally to all the people of Egypt.

Wild

Goosh! What a nightmare! I thought at a point that we have only few minutes left to live! I hope all this wont be for nothing at least!

eltviola

Thank you

Shorouk

we were sleeping only a few hours a day.I also hope during the next couple of days we pass by the most difficult period and begin discussions with the new vice president and prime minister to truly define what the government is now committed to under this new process.

Same here, all men guarding the baricades on shifts. I am quite puzzled today about what is happening. Never thought it will turn this way :(

eltviola

Thank you all for your thoughts :)

Barricade shifts are like second nature now (oh the joy :D)

Not thinking how it will turn out seems to be the main theme here as in "plan well , think it through, then act" :), now all we can do is wait for the outcome & hope its for the best

Take care everybody & be well

The Londoner

I'm so glad that many of you are well. I witnessed so many things and cannot believe how much I miss Cairo. My heart is still with my Egyptian brethren out there. Please stay safe.

I've been temporarily evacuated along with my colleagues. I'm hoping that we'll be back in about a week and a half isA.

Victory for Egypt!

Julien

Not getting news was very scary ... I hope things are (little by little) getting better in Egypt.

Wild

We all hope for things to get better, but it seems that is not like that. People here preparing themselves for worse, donating blood, colecting band aids etc. Food and water consumption is minimised, so we can have for a longer time, still on barricades on shifts with guns or any other weapons we have around, but beside this i am amazed how the people here help each other and suddenly there is no more religion, colour, gender or anything else to matter for that.

haythambibo

hope all of the ppl are safe whether they are still inside Egypt or have managed to get out.

jihannabil

Hello everyone,

I hope all expats are safe & sound.

I noticed that some Egyptians here in this forum are really participating in the ongoing events, for those, PLEASE save Egypt and stop what ever you are doing. this is never the right way to make change, Mubarak is just one man; in or out won't be that much "Be the change you want to see" Ghandy said.
protesting and giving the chance to those who terrorize us in our homes although they are intruders is NEVER the right way.

PLZ PLZ go home so we can all resume our work it has been a week in hell.

valibilic

I think media exagerate little in what they show.
Things are not so scaring, maybe the looters are something that people could be afraid.
And also, we are not Egyptian citizens, we have opportunity to choose living here or going in another part of the world, but these people have the first and the last word in deciding about their country: Egypt! It is their homeland.
We are the audience, they are on the stage!

Just got back to Canada yesterday, but left my heart and mind in Cairo. The worst part was waiting at the airport, about to board and seeing the so-called 'pro-Mubarak' supporters attacking peaceful protesters. I hope expats, where ever you are, will continue to show your solidarity with the people of Egypt by protesting, petitioning, tweeting for them.

I know exactly what you mean - I didn't want to leave and I can't wait to come back to Cairo to support my friends and help deal with the aftermath if possible :-(

Asalamu Alaykom,

Even if I am American that doesn't mean that I pick up and move out when there is trouble.  I've been building a life here.  I've got a family, a home, and a good job.  Safety is something you could try to run to in the States and not find there either.  The ex-pats who have a home and connections with Egyptians, some Arabic and patience will do fine inshahallah.

Wild

Not all expats have left the country. We are still a lot of us here and no intentions of leaving. Things get bit by bit back to normal in a lot of areas, banks oppening from today, shops oppening as well, so hopefully is getting back on track.
And about the places safe or not safe in Egypt, it depends where you live, there are people who did not hear any gun shots or any turbulence around the area they live, and others who had the worse days of their life. This is a normal side effect to such instability. I dont advice the people to go for or anti regime, is their country and they can judge for themselves.

Shaanz

There are still alot of Expats in Egypt. I have a life here and have no intention of leaving. many of my friends have also chosen to stay. Besides the protests in Tahrir, the rest of the country seems to be slowely but surely getting back to normal.

Dear All,

It's so great to read and receive from people all over the world message of support.
Everyday is a new day and waiting what's going to be but like Valibilic says it's not that scary, it's not a war against foreigners but a battle for freedom, banks opened their doors 2day and a lot of people start working also me, never thought I would say it : I DO LOVE WORK!!!! the streets were quit and the controles of army is going respectfull an calm. If you don't have a clue what's going on you even don't notice anything at least in New Cairo.
I made some calls and it's amazing how many expat stayed to support the local people.
The Egyptian people are going to write History and for me I am happy and proud to be a part of this revolution. It was heart warming to see how all kind of people (christian -moslim-black or white....) became one family on Tahrir Square (except the thugs who were send by Mr. M)but I feel heartpain to see that so many people have giving their lives for freedom, may God bless them and their families and I may pray Egypt will become very soon the country of FREEDOM!!!!

Crash Boom Bang
