first of all Mindanao is as the rest of the Philippines mostly katholic, there are more muslim orientated places here ,and as far as tolerance go's ,wel the ppl here i find extreem tolerant .i am ateist and my wife is katholic as is most of her family but we have muslim family here to so hehe they all love eachother .we go at times visiting our muslim family members and we always feel very welcome and safe ,wen talking whit the muslim family they expres there embaresment about extreemists .just as the majority of all muslims .
we live in Mati City,Davao Oriental ,Mindanao (see google maps and youtube),a smal provincial coastal city ,we love it here ,first we live in Davao but i found it to loud and to poluted so we moved on.
we have very nice beaches here and a few resorts ,Dahikan beach is very known but mostle we go elswere (to crowded hehe)there are aa few expats here ,one fromuk that we are frends whit.
i think it all depends on what one is looking for ,in my case manny yrs i was saying that i wanted to live in the tropics ,no one took it serious and they all got surprised wen i anounced my departure lol.
i'm always open for questions ,so ifyou have them dont be shy to ask them in a pm or on the forum .and if you wood ever be traveling in our region feel free to visit ,my wife and i never mind meeting new ppl

Hi Dirk

Thank you for your response, and thoughts. Muchly appreciated :)
It was a while ago when i posted my Request, and had almost forgotten the entirety of what i wrote.
My original plans of retirement abroad have had to be put on hold for a while. Mainly for financial reasons. Its a long story & a won't bore you with that;)
At the moment i am having to sit-out another cold & miserable UK winter.
Cannot wait for springtime to arrive, to hopefully get started again on my plans .... :)
Thankyou once again, and offer of further advice, as and when i may need it.
In the meantime, take care out there.

Vee .... :)

I just want to say, thank you for starting this forum. Even though the last comment is now 2 years old :-)

I am moving to Cebu City for work this summer and the majority of expat posts I have found on the internet have been related to sex tourism. So it is good to know that there are other expats there then just men looking for cheap and easy sex! I am hoping to be able to explore the city and make some friends of all varieties.

The vast majority of expats are perfectly reasonable people but, sad as it is, most sites attract scum types that are out for anything and everything.
Apart from sex ads being strictly forbidden on Expat.com's open forums (There's a dating section where men can advertise for women ... and women can ignore them), the odd one that finds their way onto these forums tend not to go down well so don't hang around for long.

Enjoy your time as an expat.

Great, thanks for clarifying! It’s nice to finally have found an expat website that isn’t centered around dating and sex. I’m really looking forward to checking out Cebu City!

Yes, hot and cold running water is a problem for many, I wish you would look at Bohol island,,I have rented on the coast many times, sunrise is fantastic every morning, but when hurricanes hit, , remember we also have many earthquake every year, you might lose power for weeks at a time I have learned to shower in summer in almost warn water, by pouring water over my head, pour water in tank to flush toilets, in summer, temps will reach over one hundred degrees Fahrenheit, each day, so warm water is not a problem, move to mountain areas, cool at night most times not need air con.i hope this helps, when my house is finished in October I will move full time

Many Filipinas have trouble re-adjusting to the culture after a few years in the western world. I personally know several couples that planned to retire here, but she wants to go back to the US or Canada.  Of course he loves it here.  Unless you love the attention of Filipino males, there's really not much incentive for a western woman to live here.  The negatives will always outweigh the advantages.....and one doesn't have to be a sexpat to realize that. lol

I think I know what you mean, I can't  climb mountain,  to see many tourist places, my wife, will not like living here in states, but in phil she can do many things, it's  just where she is comfortable,  I do like to do volunteer  work where I can, maybe  that will spark her interest

Tony your note on how men are stereo typed is correct.  How ever perhaps there is a more polite way to point out your concerns about the post.
