Hi Everyone,

I'm planning relocation in Malta and would like to ask some specific question about. Currently, I'm working for a big US IT company, but I'm located in Bulgaria working from home via the internet as Project Manager. This means that actually, I'm able to do my job from any point with good internet access which allows me to make conference calls, sharing the screen, presentations, files etc. Of corse, once I suite myself on the island I'll start searching local employers and move my career there. But I'm interested in the opportunities to continue with my current job for a while.
So, could you please tell me approx what are the monthly fees for internet access with  20-30 Mbit/s guaranteed speed. Next, what is the minimum monthly income for a single person for normal living in Malta/Gozo? Small flat rent (studio, house.. the location is not the most important thing here), monthly fees, food, transport, social life etc. I would like to know the numbers before doing this step. Many thanks in advance!

Hello there,

I could explain you many things of what to expect from the Job Market here in Malta, but I will go straight to the point and answer your questions.

Internet: 30-35euros per month (I pay 26)
Flat: you should expected 550eur minimum (fully furnished).
Transport: 25eur monthly travel card (unlimited)
Utilities (gas, electricity, water): 50-60 eur per month (that if you are not frequently using the A/C)
Groceries: That enterily depend on your lifestyle and preference, if you cook yourself and with a good market research maybe 300eur a month? Fully stocked with quality products! But again, it depends on you. I know people who get by with less and people with much more.
Social life: cinema ticket: 8 eur, drink: 2-2.5 eur, Pint of Beer: 2.5 eur (between 2 - 3.5 eur), street food snack (many options, from 0.35 cents to 2.5 euros). Restaurant medium price around 15eur per person

Many people, especially us the expats prefer to share an apartment flat with other. Everyone has their own room and share the living room, etc. Like that, you get to know people, you usually are not bound by a contract so you can move relatively easier and you save money. You can rent a room in a shared flat between 250-400 euros depending on the area.

The average monthly income is that of 1,200 euros per month NET (after taxes). That is the average. But I would say most people get by with 1,100-1,300 euros NET per month. I have many friends to earn 1,200 and they have a decent life, including trips abroad and back home. Not that often but with the right planning it's possible.

Now, for a Project Manager in Malta there are many opportunities and you could even start exploring opportunities from abroad. But it would be definitely much easier for you to secure something while you are here. Now, depends on the experience and your industry, but for a Project Manager you should expect a salary between 24-27K gross (1-3yrs of experience), 27-35K (3 yrs of experience), and 35K for PM with more years of experience. Now, those number are not set in stone and sometimes are much higher or a bit less again depending on your background and industry (Scrum, Agile, IT, etc).

You can also use the maltasalary com mt where you will be able to calculate your NET Salary.

I hope the information I provided you with helped you a little bit.

If you need anything else, feel free.

Cheers,

Depends on what kind of job and on your qualifications...

- Buy the Times of Malta and browse the job ads, or just walk into the business you'd like to work for and ask if they're hiring.

GozoMo

I don't know about Malta but on Gozo quite a few of the restaurants are advertising for staff.
