Mistakes expats make in Belgium

Post new topic

Priscilla

Hello everyone,

Did you make any mistakes when you first moved to Belgium? What were they?

How did you address your mistakes? Did you learn anything from them?

With hindsight, what would you do differently?

Are there any tips you could give future expats in Belgium to help them avoid these kinds of mistakes?

We look forward to hearing from you!

Hi

The biggest challenge happened with me was related to obtaining driving license. I could have brought International Driving License from India and started my car driving. It would have given me sufficient time to practice on Belgium road without legal challenges. After couple of months, I should have worked out to obtain Belgium driving license. In general it cost more than 1500 euro to obtain driving license if you are new to the system.

Best Regards,
Deepak

Hi,

Please be aware that it is illegal to drive in Belgium with an IDP from the time you apply for your residence permit in Belgium. IDP is only for visitors. You cease to be a visitor the moment you apply for your residence card.

Regards
