From Singapore to Malta

My husband and I are relocating to Malta for 2 years as he will be studying at the University of Malta from September '17.
We are in our mid-50s with grown kids living overseas. It's a great time for us to enjoy a new season in Malta; a country everyone says is very beautiful and has a long, rich history.
We have never lived overseas although we have holidayed around the world. We appreciate any advice on relocation and especially hope to connect with fellow Singaporeans, to ask about visas, rentals, buying certain foodstuffs, what to bring over, which church to go to, etc.
Even if you are not a fellow countryman, we'd appreciate your input too. We pray for a great time in Malta and look forward to making lots of friends and having memorable experiences to cherish after 2 years  :)

As you are 'Third Country Nationals' I assume you have checked with 'Identity Malta' that you will actually be allowed to come and live/study here to start with? If you have not done so I would suggest sorting the formalities first.

Hi Ray
Thanks for your reply. Singapore is a developed country. Unfortunately, Malta does not have a 'real' consulate here. There's a co-ordinating office that deals with student visas but not accompanying spouse. We are still sorting out the visa situation hence would appreciate if any Singaporeans can share their experiences.

Hi again. I looked up TCN and realised I've misunderstood the term. Yes, we are non-EU and yes, my husband has been accepted by UOM. He is able to get a student visa easily. The one with the visa issue is me - accompanying family member processing can't be done in Singapore.
