Hi,

I have got a job offer of 16.000k gross to move to kuala lumpur.
My question is that if it will be ok to live on KLCC with this amount paying a 1-2 bedroom serviced apartment, food, etc and still saving some money. i am single and i will move alone

I know that theres a lot similar questions on the forum but some of them are 3 years old and i would like to have a more actual overview.

Tax deduction: P. 7 of this brochure shows the graduated scale of % deductions (basically the rate gets higher the more you earn): https://www.pwc.com/my/en/assets/public … ooklet.pdf

Accommodation: Soho Suites is convenient and centrally located. You can see what is available on iproperty or propertyguru. Binjai 8 is convenient but a lot of building going on close by https://www.iproperty.com.my/rent/kuala … apartment/

Allow monthly expenditures of about RM 1500 for groceries, RM 1500 for entertainment and around RM 500 for utilities/broadband/phone. You can check costings at expatistan and numbeo

From my maths for the gross 16k I will get a net 11500 more or less.
So you recon that paying 3000 - 3500 and another 3500 for food and expenses is realistic? That will put me on 4500 save money.

Is this a realist scenario?

Yes - but a lot depends on 2 things - how much you have to pay in rent which gives you the services you want i.e. cleaning and bed changing may cost quite a lot more and its important to be clear of all the charges that you will be expected to pay in relation to your accommodation. Electricity may be charged or may be included - you will probably want your own internet. The second variable is what you eat, where you eat it etc. KLCC is the most expensive place to shop for food stuffs, although the choice is wide.

It's usually cheaper to rent a unit on a monthly basis and pay your own expenses and then get a maid to clean and wash/iron once or twice a week. There are laundries everywhere and the cost of a shirt washed, starched and ironed is around RM6-8 per item.

Thanks for the reply.
What district or zone would you recommend for renting a nice house / apartment not to expensive but still spacious and good?

Wangsa Maju Desa Putra Condominium
RM 2 500 per month unfurnished
u can google this condo in wangsa maju...next to LRT station that takes u directly to KLCC. Also a shopping mall within walking distance.
A rough idea what to expect.
Bukit Bintang has a few condo as well.
