Former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has been convicted of corruption charges and sentenced to nine-and-a-half years in prison, court documents show.
The judge ruled he could remain free pending an appeal.
Lula has rejected claims he received an apartment as a bribe in a corruption scandal linked to state oil company Petrobras.
He says the trial is politically motivated and denies any wrongdoing.
The case is the first of five charges against him.
Lula served eight years as president until 2011 and has suggested he may run again in next year's elections for the left-wing Workers' Party.
On Wednesday, a judge found him guilty of accepting bribes from engineering firm OAS in the form of a beachfront apartment in return for his help in winning contracts with the state oil company.
The charges Lula faces all relate to the Car Wash scandal, the nickname for Brazil's biggest ever corruption probe.
He is accused of bribery, money laundering, influence peddling and obstruction of justice.

Fred

I'm shocked to hear a politician could be corrupt.
This astounding story is like a magnitude 10 earthquake hitting me in the face with a wet goldfish.
I'm flabbergasted, discombobulated and have anal retentive issues likely to cause my laundry to stop washing my underwear I'm so surprised at this amazing revelation,

Will this have any comeback on the expat population there for underlying political reasons or is it a non event from an expat point of view?

Let's move on nothing to see here.

It's a doom and gloom situation.

As the crowd roars and looks for the next President????

Will it be some one of the current EAU status , similar in opinions and straighten this place out, someone who will put this country back to work, expell  all undocumented foreigners,  someone who will not be a pawn to the elite and give a proper education or another AH as the current idiot.
18 months and we get what we get.

It is what it is, talvez. What a pile of #$##$#%.

Fred

Thank You :)
So True. It is due to Unstable Government & Corruption which resulted in Bad Economic condition.
India is more diverse Country, yet we are having stable government.
I want to live in Brazil again.

Alascana

As far as I can see No Government is stable.

Every  country is in the throws of Politics and Economic mismanagement and harming it's citizens.

I doubt in my lifetime if anything will change and my children will have sift through this life.

I grew weary of racking my brain about politics and resolved to "There All Crooked" and the ones that weren't corrupt there Leaders where Killed or jailed by the crooks in power.

As for now here is my take.

it will take 30-50 years for resolution of the Worlds current State, if some idiot doesn't decide to push a ruddy button down.

And I should be long gone.

There's nothing I can do, if so all current and potential "Dictators" would be on the Front line in a War zone they all created, with no toilet paper and plenty of bacteria ridden food from the GMO gang, and hand to hand combat.

That's my Rant against the Machine!!!!

Politicians Just Don't Get It !!!!!!!!!!!.

Talvez/ Maybe.

Just being Politically Incorrect.

Let's see" Voter Fraud"is when many people vote more than 1 time.(includes the dead).

And good old/new"Election Fraud" is when the computer is Rigged !.

I vote for "Election Fraud" it's easier to do! (lol) Coming to your Town, City , Country in 2018.

Alascana you revealed the bare truth of Politicians. I Agree with you to certain extent. Yes Politicians of the World have No Religion, their ONLY agenda is Power & Money. They are All United internally, externally they oppose & are making people fools & victims. To be in Power & to accumulate wealth/money, they will manipulate anything(religion, God, nature, etc). They never let People to be Prosperous & Peaceful, they want unhappiness & problems to stay. In the Modern times, I never seen a Politician who has accepted mistakes.

Being a Social Worker I suffered more. There are many more All Over the World who struggling to live & lead a honest life.

Apart from commonly being corrupt, they tend to have no shame and assume the voters are stupid enough to get them back into office.

Problem is, they're often right about the voters.
