Registering a birth in Colombia

Post new topic

Priscilla

Hello everyone,

Have you had to or are you going to register a birth in Colombia? What was the experience like?

Who is required to register the birth, and where? Can it be either the mother or father?

What documents are usually required in Colombia?

How long does the process to register a birth take? Are there any time limits in which the registration must be completed?

Did you register the birth with your home country and how did that process compare? Will your child be able to have dual nationality?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Priscilla

Our baby was registered in Colombia; the nominated Notaria came to the hospital to complete the work and we required the parents cedulas (or passport if you do not have a cedula) and there was documentation from the hospital used as well.

We applied for Australian citizenship as well (by descent), which was a lengthy process and took a couple of weeks. This required the Colombian birth certificate, my Australian one and passport and an application form.
