Registering a birth in Oman

Post new topic

Priscilla

Hello everyone,

Have you had to or are you going to register a birth in Oman? What was the experience like?

Who is required to register the birth, and where? Can it be either the mother or father?

What documents are usually required in Oman?

How long does the process to register a birth take? Are there any time limits in which the registration must be completed?

Did you register the birth with your home country and how did that process compare? Will your child be able to have dual nationality?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Dear Priscilla ,

If you are an employee you may ask the questions to your HR or Admin managers otherwise your husband's company  will take care of this.

For those of you that are UK citizens and passport holders, I would in the first place register the birth with the British Embassy as well.

British Nationality is in the man part conferred via the male line and if you or the child's Paternal Grandfather were not born in the UK, then in order to get UK nationality, you will have no choice but for the child to be born in the UK.

Those of you on UK Govt service ought to be OK but irrespective  I would strongly recommend you check with the UK embassy.

Failure to register the birth with the Embassy can lead to problems in the future. & I speak and write from experience.

Well, I can just report how is was with my son in 2010: if any parents nationality is german, the child is - by law - german national. We did register our son first at the office next to the airport where you got your residence card. They were asking for the papers from the hospital - which was not completed (date of birth was missing...). Than we got the birth certificate in arabic and english. We went with the english version to the attestation office and than to our embassey. The german passport was issued 2 weeks later. For our daughter we made sure the delivery was in germany....

I have done this in 2016 i.e. last year.
My experience is quite similar to above, the hospital itself provided the document/form filled up by them to be submitted to ministry for getting birth certificate issued (arabic or englinsh or both of them). I preferred to get both of them.

Then I took it to our embassy who is registering it and issuing the passport.
Then we take it to ROP through company PRO who will arrange to get the Visa stamp on the passport.
