I am currently doing my Master in Global Cultural Studies (in English) at Jean Moulin University. I finished English language and literature in Belgrade, Serbia and I have been working as a teacher and a free lance translator.

I would like to stay in Lyon next year and work as an au pair in order to improve my French. I don't have experience with small children and I don't drive but I'm looking for a family who doesn't have a problem with that.
I intend to take French courses next year and continue to give English classes if I find the time, according to the responsibilities with the kid/s.

My visa expires in Septembre and I was hoping to prolong it in June through this job.

I have time to babysitt in May and June, or give English lessons so we can get to know each other better...

If you have more questions feel free to contact me. I also speak French but not fluently.

Hi Milica,

I would suggest you to post an advert under Lyon classifieds > community section - babysitting. It might also help you to find a job.

Wish you good luck

Thanks, I realized that right after I posted here :)

Hey Milica. You can use aupairworld.net! I used it when I was looking for a family who wanted au pairs in Spain and Germany and it was really successful!

Milica

thanks a lot, I'll check it out :)

Hello,

actually I didn't have any luck finding a family in Lyon. Most of the people I came across didn't get the meaning of au pair and just wanted to find a babysitter.

I had some offers from auparworld, for different places around the world, but I wanted to stay here.
The best is to find local ads online, depending on the city you want to settle in...

Good luck

Milica

Hi,

what I meant is that they thought I just wanted to do baby-sitting for some extra money and didn't have the intention to live with the family. Au pair actually means that you live with the family for free...

I can only help you if you're planning to settle in France...so the websites are

under "logement contre service"

Hi Milica,

I'm from Lyon and I think you can try to be a english assistant in a french school in Lyon for next year. Most schools are looking for girls like you to teach english to pupils.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm not sure that I'll be able to renew my visa for next year. There are many native English speakers living here and they always have priority, so finding a real job won't be easy...

Cheers
