Hello everyone,

Living outside of our home country requires us to adapt to a new culture and different traditions. What are some of the cultural specifics in Portugal?

What are some of the traditional beliefs and cultural practices that you have encountered in Portugal that are different to your home country?

Hi Priscilla and everyone.

An interesting question. One thing I have noticed, and rather like, is that in Portugal it is common when saying goodbye to strangers (in a shop or restaurant, for example) to say 'bom dia', 'boa tarde' or 'boa noite'. This seems to me to be a more formal and polite farewell than the casual English 'bye'. It is indicative of the friendly courtesy of the Portuguese people I have met.
