This place seems to be in Hanoi but maybe you could have a Vietnamese person call them and ask if they have an outlet in HCM.

I found a place in HCMC. I can have the bike in 2 days but they tell me it has to be registered in their company name. They can't even register it in my girlfriends name who is Vietnamese. This is for the blue card.

Is this normal?

Could it be that the actual displacement is a little over 150cc?

Hmm, this is little odd.. even if it is over 150cc there should not be any problems to register it with your GF name.

It's 149cc

The place I found that imports/sells them is a bike hire company in HCMC (with a good reputation I believe) so maybe they don't have the means to actually sell them into other peoples names.

They said I would have the blue card and sale contract to prove ownership. The price might even be a few hundred cheaper through them, as I'm sure they do buy backs all the time.

We found a dealer ship in HCMC though, so we will go check them out today or tomorrow.

The other option is just to rent one for a month then hand it back when I'm bored lol

This is the bike I'm looking at - http://motonhapkhauchauau.com/honda-xr- … ker-phuot/

Just did 600km round trip on one around Ha Giang and almost cried when I handed it back.

I have bought 350CC in Japan, and there is nothing complicated as Vietnam, If you love moto then you should go to JP and buy as you want even you can be owned without complicated documents. LOL

Update on this older thread ... I’m looking for a new XR150 but places I know are sold out and don’t know when they are getting new stock. Anyone know a place that holds them in Saigon?

TigerPlease

I ended up buying mine from https://motonhapkhauchauau.com/honda-xr … ker-phuot/ for around 66 million in my girlfriends name. I put big handle bars on it in the shop (the ones it comes with are for kids & small people) and a set of barkbusters.

I'm pretty sure you can buy one new through tigitmotorbikes.com/ as they told me recently the CRF150 was available (throw on an extra 1k if you want that model).

You can contact them via the website or their Facebook facebook.com/tigitmotorbikes/

If you buy through Tigit you have to register the bike in their companies name but they are a highly reputable company so would see no issues.

Thanks, good info. I'll check them out

TigerPlease

No probs! Also note, while the CRF150 is more visually appealing and a better offroad bike with beefed up suspension it is not as suitable as a 2 person bike. The seat is too small unlike the XR150. The XR150 really is a great all rounder :)

If you do buy one, there is an abundance of information here: https://advrider.com/f/threads/the-hond … d.1028549/

Yes, I also have a Suzuki HJ125 that I've done plenty of 2-up trips to Da Lat / Phan Rang / Gia Nghia. Its a great bike (especially with a bigger cylinder) but I keep find myself getting offroad and wanting to get a little dirtier.

I think you can change the carb and get a fair bit more power out of the XR150. HAve you done that?

TigerPlease

I havn't touched the carb. I put an FMF powercore 4 pipe on it which probably shaved about 5kg off :P I find it useful for waking up zombie riders too haha.

I was looking at moving up to a 250cc but don't think it's worth it just yet. The 150 is suffice and at times I've already found myself going much more faster than I really should be.

TigerPlease

I was in Saigon for a year and when you get offroad, well the bike flies, just watch out for big pot holes, I bottomed out once. The only struggle is very steep hills (I'm now in Da Nang) but that isn't too often and not half as bad as a scooter would struggle. I usually just drop back to 1st (if riding 2 Up) and relax :)

Best of both worlds for me is going to be a KTM Duke 200.  26 hp and "real" motorcycle handling.  Getting one next week.  $79,900,000.  More money than the XR150 but a heck of a lot more bike.  Can get Duke 250 for 109,000,000 or Duke 390 for 165,000,000.

Great bike I'm sure but you can't get a duke offroad unfortunately :P I've always been a dirt rider myself so getting to fang around the streets on one is the icing on the cake :) Enjoy!
