Prescription medicine in Muscat

Post new topic

Ashkj

Hi.
We are contemplating a move from the UK to muscat early next year. The only problem we have is that I require a few different types of prescription medicine. How can I find out if my medications are available in muscat ? Where can I find out how much they will cost over there if I buy them ? How much medicine can I bring from the uk ?  I will be coming back to the uk every few weeks. Will I be able to bring my medicines with me ? Say 3 months supply ?  If I need proof of the doctor prescribing it , what can I provide as proof ? Will a doctors letter be ok ?
Sorry for all the questions. Hope you can help
Many Thanks

Hi Ashkj,

Carrying an inordinate quantity of medicines into the Sultanate could result in a lot of probing at the airport - just to ensure that there is no drug peddling going on.

Carrying a proper doctor's prescription / detailed letter bearing your name, passport number, the reason for carrying the said drugs etc would certainly help you to avoid a lot of headaches.

Regarding the medicines, you may not get the same 'brand' names, however, you will find the same formulations available under some other brand names. It is better for you to consult with some local doctor or even some experienced pharmacist on what those would be. But do note that no prescription drugs would be given to you without a valid Ministry of Health (MoH) registered local doctors prescription.

Muscat Pharmacy is by far the best in the medicine distribution business in Oman. You can check their website for some basic information. But once you are here, you can pay their stores a visit for a detailed review of the product availability, costs, procedures required for procuring those prescription drugs, et al.
