Hi , my husband will be moving to budapest from his company in India and be getting a residence plus working permit . I will be joining him on the basis of family reunification and getting a residence permit . Is it possible for me to work in any place without a work permit or do i require a work permit as well to find a job.I wish to work part time in the hospitality industry ,
Also how long does it take for me to get to Budapest on "family reunification" . Can we both apply visa together or my husband has to acquire the visa first.

It's logical  to my mind that you will need your own work permit, you can't work on your husbands permit. Taxes , health coverage etc. is all individual.

Thank you Marilyn that would be the case i guess

No. You need a work permit in all cases.

But.... Your family reunification visa might include a permit to work. Maybe....

Basically, you have to ask at the Hungarian immigration office when you apply for your residency to get all the correct permits you wish and desire, as this is a complex issue and they can help you the best.

Can you speak Hungarian?

If you can't, then its very doubtful that you will find employment as you will have to deal with customers. Even working back of house you will need to it to speak with co-workers.

I know quite a few international organizations and companies in Hungary where the entire office staff speaks only English as a matter of course, due to their international staff makeup.

In fact, and as an example, if the OP speaks Hindi that may be considered an asset for outreach to entice Indian clients, and not speaking Hungarian would pale in significance. One simply needs to "sell" their assets correctly so their limitations become irrelevant.  ;)
